Crossed over yesterday on the way to Staniel. My BTC sim was still valid so I refilled it on line before leaving Miami. Got a signal 10 miles out from Cat Cay. Dialed the #205* code to access data plan options, activated the $30 a month data plan, rebooted the phone and all set. Internet on, webcam and the marine traffic based AIS

Anchored behind gun cay overnight, underway to Nassau where I ll clear customs Staniel tomorrow then Sunday I ll head to Rat Cay off Barraterre great exumas to pick up our guests on Tuesday.

I like coming on the bank at cat cay, compared to Bimini. The cut is lot easier to navigate especially coming in at night when I wouldn't attempt Bimini as the sand shifts around a lot there. Dredging was underway a couple of months ago, nit sure if its done

Can is on at www.sandbarhopper.com

I have the HTC Droid, and I love that!

Nothing to say about the phone. But, Lord, I do miss my trips to the Bahamas. Even if just the Biminis and Berrys how I do miss those trips.

Well, I m happy with BTC service incl online refill and data plan. The droid itself is another story... No matter how I much try I don't like the interface especially the key board... But as long as it serves as a phone and access point so I can use my iphone and laptop, I m happy!

I keep tweeking my wife's iPhone to be more like an Android device. iOS frustrates the heck out of me. Jailbreaking an iPhone does seem to help some. But it's like putting crazy glue on a sinking boat. Don't get me wrong, it's great hardware, but not a very flexible OS.

BTW, install a decent amp and external antenna and that BTC service goes a lot further. I've had signal at Great Sale with my system (3G amp that does 1900 and a good external antenna).

I thought it was a typo as well but "Bahamas Prepaid SIM Card from BTC (The Bahamas Telecommunications Company)." It not the phone it's the service.

Pascal, do you know if BTC sim will also work in unlocked ATT iPhone 3s. Will BTC assist in getting BYOP running with their Sim.

Jerry,

Depending on where you buy the BTC SIM, you may get some help, but most likely not. But a SIM is a SIM and an unlocked phone should behave well with it. Pascal and others have had issues with iPhones, but it may just be some settings. E-mail me if you have issues.

It should work in an AT&T iPhone although the 5 uses a small sim so it may need to be cut.

I ve never had issues with my AT&T iPhone in the Bahamas, works well no issues. Naomi on the other hand often has problems with her VZ iPhone, as well as other guest we ve had on the boat... It seems that every time she changes something to her plan or gets la new phone, it doesn't work in the Bahamas till she calls them

We're heading over to the Exumas in a couple of weeks for an extended stay. Where is a good place in Bimini to pickup a prepaid Android? I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 through ATT, but don't want to deal with the unlocking BS. Would also be nice if I could buy a BTC online and activate it once we arrive without having to hunt one down.
