FYI.. There is a dredging operation by a firm from VA going on at the entrance to Still Pond Creek. Word around the creek is that they are making a new channel into and through the cut. It's about time since they screwed it up with the jettys they put in a couple of years ago.

I spoke with the project manager at the cut yesterday. They are digging a new channel from the red marker outside the cut then thru the cut to the Green 9 inside Still Pond Creek. From that point they will dredge across the creek to the USCG station. The sandbar in the middle of the creek just past that point will not be disturbed so you will still need to cruise past the dock with the trawler before you move towards the north side of the creek. This will certainly make life easier for the deep draft folks.

They just dredged our creek to the CG station 10', guy told me I didn't have enough $ for them to put a spur into my dock. Told me to try and get on the contract in 5 yrs.
Happy New yr up and over there!

Dusty, Thanks, and Happy New Year to you and Barb!
(I didn't even attempt to talk to the guy about dredging the mud out of our cove! :(}

Still Pond is my absolute favorite spot, coming from Middle River. I was having Still Pond withdrawals! So this is all good news.
Can I get a final update? Is dredging done past the CG station? I need about 4'.

They are still working on the dredging. There is plenty of water past the USCG station if you know the channel. We've have cruisers up to 45' in the creek most nice weekends. The secret is to stay close to the shoreline on you starboard side until you pass the private dock where the trawler is tied up. After that you can move to the anchorage in the middle or follow the channel (average 8' deep) for about a mile back. We actually have a raft-up of nudists that anchor in the creek back that way several weekends in the summer. Warning... it ain't a pretty group and probably looks better with clothes on!!!

May have to make a trip there this year Mike.

Too crowded since voted "Best Anchorage" a few years ago. The locals (not you, Mike, but some of your neighbors) can be really annoying. Over the past few years we've actually found Fairlee to be more laid back and enjoyable. Plus, Fairlee is blasted with Verizon 4G signal.

Kurt,

I suppose the locals you speak of are those on the hill on the south side of the popular anchorage; that's the Kinnards Point development. You need to know where to go in the creek. Next time I'll show you a quiet and (normally) empty anchorage.

Alright, Mike, I'll take you up on that. But the people who harassed us a few years ago were all located to our port side as we departed. I got yelled at by a guy at the ramp while I was at idle-speed trying to stay away from two kids who's parent thought it was a great idea for them to swim just off the beach near the CG station. All I was concerned about was staying away from the kids and keeping way in the current. But douche-bag local thought I shouldn't be there in the first place. SP has lost it's charm for me.

Yep, that's the private ramp for the Kinnards Point development. Also, there is not supposed to be any swimming from the USCG beach (its posted) but obviously, not everyone with a boat can read.
