Well, at long last we have broken ground on the house on Still Pond Creek. It's been over a year since we really started the project with our first visit with the architech and 4 months just to get through the building loan process. But finally we are on our way. The builder called yesterday to tell us that they've begun clearing the land and we need to come down this weekend to approve the "rough staking" of the house. Meanwhile, the Admiral has hired a decorator and is making me crazy with kitchen selections. Most of this will be fun.... MOST but not all. Builder estimates 10 months to completion.

Once I figure out the picture posting thing I'll start posting some pics as we go through the building process.

I'm excited!!!

OK, thanks to OldMariner I think I've got this picture posting magic worked out.

Our dock on Jacob's Cove which is on the north side of Still Pond Creek about 1 mile in from the old USCG station.

The next 3 pictures showed the our property right after being cleared for construction of the house. The lot, which is just shy of a acre, was mostly wild grape vines with a few real trees. The county arborist had to approve what could be cleared and what needed to be replaced.... even she saw no trees worth saving or replacing as the wild grapes had pretty much killed off anything else. It's the Eastern Shore's version of Kudzo! The cleared area was limited to what is needed to support construction, well, septic and driveway.

looks great Mike. Are docks not removed in that area for winter freeze protection?? Will you clear more brush and stuff for a water view?

All right! On your way now....

How much water depth and what kind of bottom do you have at the end of the dock? we might try to sneek in and have a look some day.

Bruce,

Some docks are not removed but most are floating docks and are hauled. We are actually across the street from waterfront and we have a limited water view between two small cottages that are waterfront. Tried to talk the owners into tearing down their cottages but they refused.... go figure. BTW, there is another waterfront cottage down the road from us which needs a lot of work (might even be a knock-down) that just went on the market for $650K.

Chuck,

MLW is about 2', mud bottom. If you come in you can tie-up to the 1st floating dock which is actually a community dock (for a community of 3, yours truely included). If there is a small runabout tied-up at the end of the dock just tie-up to it. Walk up the hill (Hans and Cathy Bitter's house is waterfront on your left. They are our builders so just go ahead and introduce yourself) and straight down the street that parallels Still Pond Creek for about 100 yards and you'll come to the future "Casa de Mikee". There is a channel through the cove that the neighbors have marked so you could even anchor in the cove and we'd come get you in the dink if necessary.

How is a 47' Chris Craft going to come visit you with so little water? Please arrange for dredging a channel at least 5 feet deep to your dock. You might even get some of the sail boat members to visit then.

Mike,

Its a mud bottom so come visit often and keep those props spinning as you approach the dock. After a couple of seasons of visits the dredging will be complete! :)

Builder called. Basement and footings have been dug. Footings were poured this week and foundation/basement block work will be done next week. We hope to get down next weekend and get some fresh pics.

Good to hear all is underway. Between Labuilders's Chris and our props, we will eventually get you a channel.

Mike,
We built our home in Middletown DE 21 years ago, and it is really great to see the foundation and framing coming out of the ground! 10 months seem long, based on our experience; but then again, I did about 85% of the work after "dry in" myself.

Best to you!

Delaware Jim

MikeeH - I stuck my nose in there on Monday morning to have a look. Because it was uber-low tide, all I got for my troubles was a sea strainer full of mud and weeds....

Chuck,

Keep it up and eventually we'll have some decent depth!!

A good start. It looks like the builder will be digging in butter to place the foundation...no rocks :) The last project I did I made sure the primary structure , for me it was the barn, was raised a few feet from grade so water would run away.

Mike,

It is nice to see you making progress. We submitted a request for a boat house three weeks ago and still haven't heard anything.

The water looks beautiful there. Is it a good spot to ski or are there underwater hazards?

Can't wait for the progress pictures.

Tom

Tom: WOW a boat house.. Here on the Chesap. ( at least the county around Annapolis ) If you didn't have one by about 10yrs. ago you will never get one. They stopped the permits due to the shade for underwater grasses, but to show you how dumb that seems,,we have a jet dock for our 22 ft. bow rider,,and there isn't any light through that!! I wish Jet Dock made some kind of structure up from their unit to provide cover.

Did you hear they spotted the first black bear in 100 years on the eastern shore down by there. They say he must have come from PA and must be looking for a mate.

Wow!! I'm pretty big an hairy so I'm sure not going to be caught bending over!!!

Just a tad over 2300 not including the basement, garage and the unfinished "bonus room" over the garage.
