Has anybody ever, or saw how, a small outboard can be stowed on a 2004 340 and if so where?

I picked the boat up in Nov, used it a few times and layed it up for the winter. I've since obtained a 9.9 merc/2-stroke hoping to fit it under the rear cockpit seat but the boats still shrink wrapped.

Steve,
on my 34 the only place i could that and the rolled up dink was in the cockpit..The motor sat adj to the dink.... and i ended the mess with a big cooler..... So i had zer cockpit seating while underway.....

The 44 is the same thing except just bigger.....

That motor fits no where...sadly

Rob

Have you tried to fit it in the " trunk " ???

On my 370DA..... I put my 5hp Merc in the " trunk ". It fits perfect.
The RIB is on Weaver brackets on the swim platform.

Don,
between the fenders, the lines, electrical cords and the water hose...how u getting the motor in???

And why is no one posting about the moron that uses 100% tabs and claims good gph...WTF....Don its official NONE of thepills work....

Rob...... I store my shore cords....water hoses & lines in side compartments in the cockpit. My fenders are normally in the trunk.....but when I bring the engine/dink .....I slide the (4) fenders under the rear cockpit seat.....then the trunk is empty. The 5hp Merc fits in there like a glove.

As far as the pills not working...........NOT EVEN THE VIAGRA ?????

LOL... u know i had that in there ... ( not even the viagra... wife got all pissed off....) so i deleted it

Yes not even the viagra... just came back from radio shack with a brick of batteries... lol

What kind of sissy fenders u got that fit under the seat???

: )

Thanks gentlemen,

Not having had the engine before she was shrink wrapped I think the trunk or under the rear u-bench seat would be the only possible locations. That's one reason why I went with a 2 stroke since it's smaller than the 4.

When the wrap comes off, I think the trunk is the only location it will fit, although I'm courious to see if it'll fit under the cockpit seats. There is a lot of room under there.

On my 380DA a merc 5HP 2 stroke would NOT fit under the rear seat no matter how I tried to orient the engine. That would have been the perfect place. I don't think that the 340DA rear seat is any higher. I had planned to lay it in a big plastic storage tub that I bought in Home Depot and then slide it under. That way, if anything did leak, it would be contained in the bin. Either way, I would still recommend the bin if you store it in the trunk.....just for containment....

Guys ... I can't fit the 9.9 under the seat on my current boat....

It would fit in the stern locker but u know that blades going to take a chuck out one of these times ... and where do I put the rest of the gear... COCKPIT floor works ... and I just lay down a few towels for leakage....

Rob.......easy does it with the double dose of Viagras... your dunna hurt yourself :) :) :)

I keep my 9.9 in a big gym/duffle bag; REI sells one that's big enough. I put closed cell foam in the propeller end of the bag to keep it from gouging shins and nearby gelcoat. The handle on the bag makes it a lot easier to move around than engine by itself, or the typical engine cover harness/straps. The handles also make it easier to pass it down to someone in the cabin if it needs to be stowed below.

FWIW--When I bought my used 1986 340 SB in 1992, the previous owner had fabricated a bracket mounted inboard on the aft cockpit bulkhead. The 6 HP Yamaha hangs there very nicely. Of course you lose a little cockpit room. The bracket a flat, about 6" x 4", piece of aluminum plate is bolted to the bulkhead. The rest of the bracket is held together with pins. When not in use it dissambles in about 30 seconds, so there are no protruding parts.
If I was compentent do do so I would show pictures, but haven't got that down yet. If this could apply to your boat- good. If not nothing tried, nothing gained.
The dingy is on swim platform with Weaver davits Good Luck.

Keep iy on your tender. use a ross kelly olsson davit. Why fight 80 or so pounds evry time you want to use it.
Check it out go to www.boatdavit.com look at the 275 st its easy.
I hav had oe for the past 4 years works like a champ.

I had the weaver davit system and used to just take the engine off and had to store it on the deck of cockpit (4hp 4 stroke). Lost one of the davits so now I just leave the engine on the dink and pull it up on to the swim platform and tie it off to the rear cleats. Much easier as I do not have to lift the engine off and on at each stop. Roughly 3/4 of the dink fits on to the platform so it is not an issue. Just wrap a line around the neck of the engine and then to the cleat.

Joe, That also sounds like a plan as they say.Lot less lifting. Question: How do you handle backing into a tight slip and do you have any control issues while backing? I would use my motor a lot more if it didn't need to be mounted avery time.
Thanks,
Ron

I have never had a problem backing up or even filling up the gas tanks. When filling up, I stand in the dingy. Just take the plug out so any water runs out. I have taken the dink more since doing it this way. very easy, drop it off the swim platform (even off the side of it if you are in a slip) and off you go. Just one thing, if the dink is bottom painted, put something under it so the paint doesn't rub off on to the platform. I use a rubber backed carpet which also helps hold it in place.

Thanks for the advice gentlemen. I like the gym bag idea alot, does'nt one or more of the engine manufacturers make padded travel bags for their small outboards?
Since dingy davits were mentioned, any advice on which would work best for my Mercury 270 airdeck. For loading/unloading & docking purposes I really want to avoid taking up the whole platform if it can be avoided.
John the boatdavit.com system that you mention looks good but it looks like it is perminantly fixed to the platform and what about getting around the lines holding it up?
The Weaver system looks good too and the brackets remove when the inflatable is in the water but is there a height issue with my 04' 340 when using them. The swim platform has got to be at least one foot or more off the water.
