Striper Fishin'

OK - The stripers either left the river or decided not to come up the Hudson this year. Another day of feeding expensive worms to what ever small fish are out there.

Any reports of anything decent up north near Kingston yet?

I was wondering why I kept hearing people ask on the radio, "anybody catching any fish" and never hearing an answer. I thought my radio was broken! ;)

This week I'll bet there'll be more action. Still a little early even with the warm air temps. Anyone entering any contests? I see Certified Marine on the Rondout has something going on May 2-3.

Haverstraw Marina is having theirs on Sat May 3rd. We are entering thats why I am looking for maybe more up north

Sunday we were up north between Cold Spring and Bannerman's Island. Saw a few fishing boats and many were on shore fishing. No action. Saw a few fish jumping.... That's all folks.

The boat traffic on the creek seems very light this year. As yet we have not seen the usual trailers and campers in the marina that folks use to stay in while fishing.

The last time I was out, early last week..There were plenty of fish but the water temperature was still high 40's...THe fish just were not hitting. Need the water to warm up a bit to get them started. Problem is by the time it does warm up they will be north of us...

One of the hot tub heaters, Indian Point 2 was shut down for refueling...I think it's online now. That should warm the water.

Here is a posting on Certified Marine's website regarding their tournament this weekend.

Tuesday, April 29th

14th Annual Striped Bass Tournament has been changed to the 10th & 11th of May.
With the creeks, river and expected weather, we thought it best to cancel the 3rd & 4th dates.
Current moving very rapidly, muddy & debris from the rain.
Water temperatures have dropped down several degrees. Boats went out today, but little results.

Bait available: Bloods, Sands, Nightcrawlers, Live, Iced & frozen herring.

I have to look at their site, I didn't know they had one!

I received many phone calls and emails yesterday regarding a 38" Stripper caught just south of TZ Bridge... Fishing Tourney from Cornetta's Restaurant & Marina is this weekend. The fish are hitting on live eel and bunker.

FINALLY!!!!

A 38" STRIPPER. WOW! What were her other measurements [-crzwom] , and what did you use for bait? $10 bills??? [:-mischievous]

Hey, what size hooks should I use?

And also, what difference does it make if you catch a striper in the ocean and eat it in a fancy manhattan restaurant? It was probably born and raised in the Hudson anyhow. Somethings going to kill you anyway, why worry about it. Just got to catch it first!

The Haverstraw Tourney was yesterday. a 38 in Striper at 21 lbs won.

We got nothing but a few micro stripers.

I stopped by the boat club this evening and a lady fisher woman named "Ginny" brought in a 43" Striper weighing 42lb, 2oz. This cow was big, very big! The belly on this cow was huge, musta been a beer drinker! They took pictures so If I get a copy, I'll post it.

I caught a 28" 16lb Stripper Saturday.. I threw back an 18" and a few shortys as well. Big mother of an eel too. It was a good day considering all the other fishing days were skunked.

Where did she get the 43"er? What bait was she using?

Now that I got the steering cable fixed, I have got to get out there this week.
