Has anyone recently been out to the south end of Stump Pass State Park?

We generally head to Cayo Costa for a day trip or the occasional overnight, but the water seems so much clearer at Stump Pass we were thinking about hanging out there this weekend and perhaps even staying the night onboard.

I know that pass is constantly changing and am concerned with my straight inboards that draft 30". We looked at it on Google Earth, but don't know how recent the photo is. There is/was a small cove on the south end of Stump Pass and a really nice beach with a large, deep swash channel on the opposite side.

Any comments would be appreciated.

THANKS !

Hi RWS, I just went out Stump Pass last weekend and headed south to Cayo Casta, came back the same way. Stump pass at this time is well marked and open. You should have no problem with depth. There is an area south of the pass once inside where you can anchor up. Its on the north east tip of Knights Island. The small cove on the state park side (north side of pass) is still there but very shallow, good for a dinghy or small boat. Bring your dinghy and hit the Tiki Bars. Stump Pass Marina, and the White Elephant will have entertainment till (2300). Good Food at the White Elepant. (Broasted Chicken)The water is still clear, no rain in englewood to mess it up! I'll see ya out ther this weekend!! My new boat is "Floridaze" soon to be TIKI TIME too

We live in Punta Gorda and were thinking about anchoring out at Stump Pass for the day and maybe spending the night. Years ago, before the dredging, there used to be a nice place to anchor out but there was a very strong current. The water was nice and clean, clear as compared to the seaweed and seagrass tea that is in Pelican Bay (Cayo Costa).

We were last through the pass in January and anchored on the Knight Island? side, however I'd really prefer to get into either the cove on the south end of Stump PAss State PArk or the protected area on the north side of Knight Island where the beach is.

I'm concerned about the depth as with straight inboards and a draft of 30" I can't just lift by outboards/outdrives when I get into skinny water.

Anyone been into either the north side or south side "coves" lately ?

There is no cove on the out side of Knights Island and the cove on the State Side is very shallow. I should know I live there.

The pass is still open. Coming from the south I enjoy the ICW. A little more scenic ride. I think this year when spending the night, I 'm going to anchor a little further north, near the White Elepant or Captians Club. The currents aren't as strong and you can still dink any where you want to go. Have great weekend it was beautiful out there last weekend.

Ive seen many Sailboat in stump pass and there have been alot anchored up near chadwick cove lately also. going out the pass stay to the south side of the red markers the sand has realy shifted sence they removed the geo-tubes

Bunping the topic to see if anyone has more current info.

THANKS !
