Its been a few years since being an active boater & I'm looking for suggestions for day trips for lunch or dinner outings. Maybe an overnighter when warranted.

Im based out of Green Port with a 21+ knot cruise speed

I went on a friends boat to Crab Shell in Stamford. CT
Easy in and out.
Good food.
Nice Ambience.

Coming from Greenport ? The Ct river and Essex are a straight run across the sound once you clear plum gut. The Griswold Inn is an excellent destination. Safe Harbor / Brewers / Essex Island marina is within walking distance to the Gris.

Hi,
Claudios offers docking ;-) , just kidding.

Also, very close is the Shelter Island town dock in Derring harbor. Free tie up and you can walk to restaurants in the heights.
On shelter on the south side is the island boatyard, they allow docking for diners at the restaurant there.
You can also anchor off crescent beach and take a launch (was $10 per person each way last year, we declined the $80 round trip to go 100 ft. for the 4 of us. )
You can doc at the town slips in Sag and go to restaurants there, you'll need top pay for the dockage by the hour
Orient by the Sea has docking, but , not sure you'd want to bring you large boat into that small basin.
Montauk - Ricks Crabby Cowboy has docking for diners. Not sure of the fees, but, you can dock at the Montauk Yacht club and dine. I would think Star island too. As far as I know there is no docking in fort pond, but, if you have a dink you can anchor and dingy in to navy beach
Abbott's Lobster in Noank, CT

Andy,
Island boat yard has SALT for a short trip. Supposed to be a very good restaurant.

More on Montauk restaurants:
Navy Beach Restaurant on Fort Pond Bay is $$$$ and has become popular with the mega yacht circle as well as the go-fast types and still a few day tripper boats who like to mingle with that bunch. I have even heard anchored boats hail a launch on ch16 to taxi them back and forth, (I would be surprised if the launch service is actually CG licensed or approved).

Also on Fort Pond Bay is Duryea's Restaurant, which has a dock which is okay on a calm day, but wide open to anything blowing from the NW or N. This place has morphed from a BYOB, paper plate, great fried fish on the terrace to more of a gentrified upscale fish-house.

In the harbor:
Star Island Marina and Montauk YC have already been mentioned.

Gosmans does not encourage boats to tie to their pier (which is almost always busy with lobster boats and draggers packing out) but there is a tiny sandy beach right in front that can handle a few dinghys

Elsewhere in the harbor with docking possiblities are Liars Saloon (no food, only booze) (authentic, gritty and rowdy!). Try Offshore Sportsmans marina for a temporary tie up.

Don't overlook The Hideaway Restaurant at Diamond Cove Marina. Mostly Mexican/SW food with a definite Jimmy Buffett feel to the crowd. Not fancy but if you want laid back informal with a good possibility for a free slip while you eat this is the place.

None of the places monitor the radio so come prepared to use your cell phone to check on tie up chances.

Hey, Dave
When I was based out of Huntington I used to go to the Crab Shell often & agreed it’s a good spot

Tom
Good choice on the Gris, yet the last time I was there, very many years ago, they wouldn’t let me in with a tank top ;-)

Gary
Good stuff! I hope I have the time this year to check them all out

Rob
Good choice, I just called Island boat yard and the have a few larger slips that can fit me. Well get there over the next couple of weeks and report back. Still look forward to catching up with U on the bay
Thx
