Suggestions for overnight slip at Block

Around 2004 to 2007 I kept my 50’ Cruisers operational all year round. I kept the boat in Port Washington where the Marina had many year round live-a-boards
Besides a few electric heaters I used block heaters & the heat from the mains kept the boat temp more then warm enough to stay on it year round. Mater of fact it was downright hot, always above 75f. Didn’t winterize anything & nothing broke.

I ususally come out 1st week of Dec. The only thing I once froze was the freshwater spigot in the transom. The engine room is ok in early December because the water surrounding the hull is still well above freezing. If I had a Pilothouse, I would definitely use my boat more in November, instead of only when it is sunny creating a greenhouse effect in my cockpit. Fortunately my cockpit is 100% enclosed with an aft curtain. So when the s7n is out, it get warm quickly. But when the sun goes down, it get chilly very fast... brrrr. Ok no more depressing cold talk, it is only August. Lets go boating!

While I kept a boat in south bay thanksgiving was my usual time to return it to its winter home in Freeport. I remember sailing along the Jones beach shore from FI inlet in falling snow. The snow made the wind flow over the sales obvious. :D

I’m very tempted to winterize and shrink wrap in the water so I can stay in over the winter. Lots of people on my canal do it. But they live right there.
Hate to give up my “clubhouse” for the 5 months.
Last winter was my first being fully retired and January and February were boring as hell. Would have been nice to be able to putter around on the boat.
Plugged in to the electric would give me the fridge, TV, stereo, and a little electric heater while I’m there. Life would be good.
But both of our kids will be away at College this year, we’ll be empty nesters for the first time and we’re hoping to take a few vacations in the colder months. Not sure I want to be thousands of miles away and worrying about the boat in the water. I’m a little OCD and a bad weather report at home would bother me while I was away.
