I'm thinking of getting a slip at Summit North for Sunday night. If this is my base...how far to Havre De Grace, Fairlee Creek? I can cruise from 35-40mph if its not too rough. 25' Cuddy.

Also...any other good points of interest in the upper Chesapeake that I should consider (I know about the Chesapeake Inn already)? I Like dockside rest/bars, live music, fun atmosphere. Thanks in advance.

Jellyfish Joel's at Fairlee. Red Eyes Dock Bar at kent Narrows (not very "kid friendly", if that matters to you). It's a bit of a party crowd.

I gotta head off to to the hotel now.

Make sure you have a good set of charts for the upper part of the bay as the water gets a bit skinny in places. The entrance to Fairlee is "intersting". You will find details in another thread on the board.

Baltimore is also a possible and you can tie up alongside anywhere in the inner harbor so you could be right outside places such as Hard Rock Cafe, the Science Museum, the Aquarium, Constitution and a number of other places. Canton is also good for bars and live entertainment and the marina there is Henderson's Wharf. The dockmaster is hard to get by phone and it is probably mostly booked this weekend but you could probably tie up on the outside during the day. If you go give them a call on the VHF, the dockmaster responds on that.
With winds from the Ne or SE over the weekend you will have wind over tide at least part of the day so you may get a short chop when that happens.
The tidal flow will be generally South in the afternoon and north in the morning this weekend. Slack water at around 2:00 PM on Sunday. Off still pond the peak flow will be over one knot so your peak chop could be about 3 hours either side of slack.

According to the latest chart updates from 3/6/07 a lot of the navigation aids in the upper bay have been repositioned so if your chartplotter chip is older then the buoys may not be exactly where shown.

If it is a bt rough you could always dodge into the Sassafras and I am sure the ROs based there can tell you more.

Thanks Mike...good info. I have been to Fairlee before...I was just wondering how long of a cruise it would be from the C&D. Looks like about an hour for me.

Bob: I wouldn't think it would take you much longer than that at your speed. The C&D is pretty much on plane, and if weather is good yourtrip should be pleasant.

Had a nice trip. Took me 90 minutes on Sunday from Phila area to Summit North on the way down. Flat water! From there went down to Fairlee. It took a little more than an hour, lots of boat traffic..little choppy. Anchored out in the cove with the other 200 boats! Good people watching though. Was able to hitch a dink ride over to Jelly Fish Joels for a cheeseburger. Got a ride back on a go-fast! Took a swim...no nettles.

Left to come back to Summit a little late, it got dark about twenty minutes after I left....just took it slow...kept a good eye on the chartplotter. Ended up sleeping on the anchor at the cove in Chesapeake city. It was a beautiful night...clear skies with plenty of stars. It was a little noisy in the beginning but settled down after a while. Somebody anchored not too far from me in the middle of the night....they must not have had enough scope...they drifted into me about 6am. No harm though...they repositioned the boat and I was able to get back to sleep for another hour.

The ride back was relatively rough with choppy water from the C&D exit all the way back to Philly. The ride back took a little more than two hours. The only casualty from the trip was losing my gas cap when I fueled up for the ride home. The wire that holds the gas cap must of come off...plop right in the water! I just taped it up for the ride home.

Bob,

We were at Fairlee on Sunday. Great day. Lots of boats there. When I have more time, I'll post a few photos.

Glenn,

Where were you? We were anchored about 125 yards southwest of Jelly Fish Joels. It was a good day.
