Sump Question

ah - that issue, yes it's crazy. Not only does include bilge and gray water, "deck runoff" is also mentioned!

re: the sump, the box DOES fill, but it's backfilling from the hose instead of filling from the condensate pan. It's pumping water out of the box, uphill into the hose where a little might escape through the through-hull, but then it seeps past the check valve and refills the box.

Unless it's been changed out, your current boat has an Attwood sump, located in the hold more-or-less even with the head door. It has that notoriously fragile check valve flap. The good news is that if you ask nicely, Attwood customer service will send you a new one F.O.C. (just don't ask for more than 2 - they'll want to charge)

If the check valve is working properly, an A/C unit running at full blast on a humid day will still won't produce enough condensate to fill the sump in 10 minutes.

Anyone ever try those gizmos that send condensate out with the cooling water. Some kind of venturi. Do they really work? Anyone know where to get one?

I bought the Mermaid Condensator and used it for one season. It was really more hassle than it is worth for me. You have to take it apart and clean it about every 2 weeks for it to keep working and it has to be mounted below the AC pan. For my installation it was difficult to access for cleaning. If you don't keep it clean your pan will overflow. I went back to letting the condensate drain into my bilge and use a wet vac at the end of the weekend to dry the bilge.

Mine drain into the shower sump and then overboard. The shower sump is small maybe 9"x18"x10" cost around 100 bucks.. Throw one in.
