Today I had a hull survey done on my '90 Regal Commodore. Entire deck/hull/stringers/transom all sounded out via hammer and moisture meter. I was charged a flat rate for the hull survey as this was done for my own peace of mind, not for sale or insurance, so the results were verbal, not written up. Is it customary to tip marine surveyor's? thanks, Alan
 
I wouldn't think so. You're paying for a "product", not a service.
 
No written report??? Yea, tip him if he mixed you a drink and/or drove you there in a yellow car.
 
I would say it depends on the type of service you recived and how fair the fee was for his service.
