I am new to boating and am in need of a mechanical and hull surveyor.

I was contemplating trying to survey the boat myself (Im sure this thread will start on fire after that comment is read. If I did so, is there a checklist I could use as reference? My boat is a 1986 Sea Ray 30Ft weekender.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What is the purpose of this survey? If it is for insurance or financing purposes, then neither the insurance company or finance company will accept anything that you submit sufficient as a survey.

You should ask around for names of a reputable surveyor in your area, and/or you should contact a NAMS or SAMS surveyor to assist you.

Thank you for the repy!

The purpose of the survy is just to get an idea of how much work we need to put into the boat as far as repairs (engine, electrical and or hull). My insurance compnay and financial institition did not request a survey.

I was looking around on this site for a checklist of things to insect for when buying a boat. (In relation to hull, engine and electrical.)

I couldnt really find an extensive list. Does anyone know of a good resource?

Too bad it is for Palatine, IL and not near Racine, WI...I know a great surveyor in your area. Lawrence Marine Service, Inc. I had a short time frame before purchase and he squeezed me in and gave me a really fair price.

Well, I actaully live in racine, and am buying the boat in Il. Ill give him a call. Whats his name and #?

Also where are you from in racine? I work downtown.

I actually live in Illinois, but I bought a boat up by Racine, WI. His info is:
Richard Lawrence Phone#1 262 694 5609
