Funny how life works! Sometimes we have nothing but stress and then things have a way of just falling in place.
Very last minute my son decided he would like to go to law school this fall instead of taking off a year as planned. He had recently taken the LSATs and did OK well enough that several schools reached out to him and suggested he apply now for the fall. To my surprise he got into two schools of his choice with scholarship money as well. Problem is classes start in a few weeks and he still wasn't sure where he wanted to go. My wife and son flew to see the schools and make a decision along with find an apartment order furniture. To complicate all this I'm going on vacation Saturday they hope to be home by Friday. Needless to say it has been a bit stressful in my house lately. To top things off my daughter starts at Penn State as a freshmen on the 22nd.

I really need this vacation!!!!!!

Tell him NOT to become a lawyer, trust me, I know...

I have two sisters one is a lawyer the other is a doctor both insist they are in the worst profession and discourage anyone pursuing their fields. I would prefer my son becomes a lawyer rather then a cop which was a thought for a while.

Today he will commit to his choice school then sign a lease for an apartment and order furniture. Tomorrow they will fly home and Friday evening I plan to be on board so we head out on Saturday morning in the rain. What a week!

My son is considering law school. I told him he would be much better off being a Clarkstown cop. He can retire after 20 years with full benefits, and then figure out what he wants to do with his life.

FROZEN CRABS AND THE BLONDE FLIGHT ATTENDANT

A lawyer boarded an airplane in New Orleans with a box of frozen crabs and asked a blonde flight attendant take care of them for him. She took the box and promised to put it in the crew's refrigerator. He advised her that he was holding her personally responsible for them staying frozen, mentioning in an arrogant manner that he was a lawyer, and threatened what would happen to her if she let them thaw out.

Shortly before landing in New York, she used the intercom to announce to the entire cabin, "Would the lawyer who gave me the crabs in New Orleans, please raise your hand?"

Not one hand went up ... so she took them home and ate them.

There are two lessons here:

1. Lawyers aren't as smart as they think they are.
2. Blondes aren't as dumb as most folks think.

A law degree is a darned handy degree to have, even if you never practice a day. Such for my dad. I had to give it 16 years before moving on (thank goodness an opportunity presented itself). Would I go to law school again? Yes, probably would (and more than one classmate did not practice after graduation). Would I practice again? Doubt it, knowing now what I know.

At this point and time my son's interested in estate planning but this could certainly change being he hasn't even started law school.

My sister is a real estate lawyer long hours but not a lot of stress.

As for being a cop if you can get a job in Clarkstown that's great but hard to do! My son has wanted to move South as long as I can remember, today it's official he rented an apartment ordered furniture and started moving in some miscellaneous things sometimes dreams do come true:)

If all goes well and there are no emergencies I should be off as of now thus allowing me to prep the boat tomorrow for the trip on Saturday:)

The weather is not looking great but I need to get away!!!

Is it that bad at the "resort"??

If I'm local I'm on call! I need to get out of dodge:)

Currently we have rain out here in Block Island (Sat 8AM)and likely to last all day. The wind is down right now to almost nothing and rain is light and spotty - visibility is good off the great salt pond west right now. Champlain's is almost full - boat basin and Payne's are maybe 3/4 full last night.

Hard to believe that my trip is almost over I will be heading home in a couple of hours from our final Port of call (Port Jeff). I know they say all good things must come to an end but I doesn't mean I have to like it!

It's been a great week with the wife and kids I hope to be able to do this again in the future but as the kids grow up and build lives and careers of them our trips like this become hard to plan.

Yes all good things come to an end. our mini vacation is over as well. Cant wait for the weekend and for the end of the month, going to the channel club.
