Taken for a ride?

I just figured that along with Coast Guard Training that you would somehow become familiar with Boats in general.

Mike,

That's a nice choice of a tow vehicle. I'm using a 2001 Excursion with the 7.3L PowerStroke. I only get about 9mpg towing from MD to FL each year (we only tow once per year), but I do get 17mpg when not towing. Sadly, the truck is in the shop right now. At 200k it was time for new ball joints (again) and the rear A/C line went bad. Unfortunately, the parts are starting to become hard to find.

I know, my truck has INCREASED in value since I purchased it last OCT despite the high miles I've put in. Scarcity of the vehicle has helped there but, they are costly to maintain. I just figure with parts it should always be fairly simple. I mean how many times have we heard 'F series is the highest selling truck' and after all, it’s an F-250 with a perm top and leather seats, right?

Man, now I am not familiar with 'boats in general'? Ouch, a shot at my manhood ;-) Just kidding. I just simply said it was an issue I had never had to deal with. My first post said I THOUGHT I had seen at all the marinas I had been to with my other boats that pumpouts were free or nominal cost. My family has owned boats the entire time I have been alive and I have been operating them as long as I could. I just skipped the middle-sized ones with pumpouts. I consider myself quite knowledgeable in 'boats in general' yet I am aware of my lacking areas, I.E. this subject, although I did have some information, which proved to be correct. When my first experience in this matter proved contrary to what I thought I knew, I simply asked more experienced boaters in this matter.

sounds like a bunch of crap to me. but if the price is that high, just hang a sign around the head that says $45 per flush.

Heh, "perm top and leather seats", that's a good one. But you're right, I was looking at 250's and decided that since I have a little '98 Tacoma, I didn't need another "truck". So I found this '01 Excursion on Craig's List near me. I'm the 3rd owner. The first was a funeral director and the truck was his limo. Can you imagine the sound of this 7.3L in a cemetary? He traded it back to the dealer he bought it from (in Baltimore) on an '05 V-10 so he could get the last of the new models. I bought it from the Ford tech who grabbed it up when it came in. The repairs haven't been that bad, but they do "eat" ball joints. Heck, the 7.3L is so heavy, the guy I bought it from put F-350 1-ton springs on the front to keep the truck from dipping forward! I put some "helper springs" on the rear to somewhat equal that and keep our boat/trailer level. My main problem right now is that the rear A/C went bad and took out the primary (front) A/C. The parts are hard to come by as no other vehicle from Ford ever had two A/C units in it. But I got a call a few hours ago from the shop saying they think they have a solution. Sheesh, I hope so!

You did the right thing. You'll find some USCG "issues" here (heck, I've posted some myself and have made some waves on this forum because of it), but we all try to help our fellow recreational boaters as much as we can. Post as much as you like and just ignore the replies that you don't agree with. Heck, get an "anchor" and join the fun in the member-only forums. It's always a hoot!

Anyway, I hope you got your answer. We all at BE would like to invite you to stay and enjoy the comradery.

If the system was installed and paid for with funds from the Wallop-Breaux Act or the Clean Waters Act, the facility can only charge a fair and reasonable fee for utilities and any labor they provide, which generally ranges from free to about $10.00.

Exactly!

Just ignore Tanq, he seldom has much to add but likes to stir the pot.

lol, Dave.

Man, Mix. I thought the boat had some surafce area. I did the truck by hand today for the first time... my shoulders kill. I decided to it right after I applied cleaner and a coat of wax to the boat. It'll be worth it neext weekend to see it on the water!

Mixman, the Coast Guard headquarters isn't in WV, The National Vessel Documentation Center is in WV. There is a difference.

And.... if you are a licensed mariner, you know the National Maritime Center is also in WV ;-) (as is the Operational Service Center if you are a cyber threat to the CG or have a problem on one of our systems)

Makes you wonder how much more stuff Byrd is going to be able to cram in to the state before he dies?????

CG: Dont feel bad. The USCG does not teach any of us about recreational boats unless we are boarding team members or small boat crews. ANd holding tanks on POVs was never in any of the Servicewide exams.

I would just stop by a marina in Woodbridge to get pumped out. Or check out the marina on Quantico, it might be free if they have one.

Virginia Dept.of Health website says $20.00 fee for pump out at Lake Anna Marina.I agree that you were RIPPED OFF BIG TIME.I will have to warn my friends and customers about this.Next time bring your boat down to Colonial Beach on the Potomac river its a bit closer for you there is a lot more water and you won't be treated like a money machine.Just ask for me at the marina.
