We cruised to Richmond to see the Iowa and on the way we passed by the newly restored and freshly painted Red Oak Victory ship. She looks very good while the Iowa is showing the many years of neglect. Too bad that after the restoration she will be moved to LA.

Nice pics.
So the Iowa is no longer in the moth ball fleet?

Maybe you should post in ATC. I bet a lot of people would be interested in seeing the pics.

"Too bad that after the restoration she will be moved to LA."

The socialists that run San Francisco want nothing more than to wipe every last vestige of San Francisco's once proud Naval tradition from the pages of history. If they did allow it to be berthed in San Francisco, they would mandate that it become a homeless shelter.

^^^^^^^

Yeah, sadly we're going bass-ackwards... [:-banghead]

Thanks for the pics! I've caught a lot of sturgeon while enjoying watching the Iowa and the other once proud military ships of the Mothball Fleet.

I hate to see any of them leave the Bay Area. They've been a "must-see" sight for me my whole life as well as the lives of all of my kids.

Nice to see the Red Oak with new paint. She started looking ragged after the initial rush to restore slacked off.

No matter where the IOWA goes, I'm glad that she will be restored. Some years back, someone asked about her and I posted some pix of her at the mothball fleet. They were really poor pixs, though.

I'm with you Charlie! Long Beach has the space and the money for her; that is why she is going to LA. I think I heard that she will be a Bed & Breakfast as well as a Tour Boat. Similar to QE I'm guessing......
