Saturday while heading down river and approaching Shirttail Charlie's, I was going very slow and watching the trash in the water, trying to avoid plastic bags and 2x4's and such. I saw what at first looked like a dirty large waterlogged fender just under the surface, but then noticed it had a tail and snout. I guess it was a manatee and it was just barely under the surface. Glad I didn't hit it. Then when I got to the ICW I started experiencing a fairly loud rattle underneath. I thought maybe my steering was going out, but the boat was running fine, just making this strange noise. We finally decided it was coming from under the motor and might be something stuck under there, so I did a sharp right turn then back left, and sure enough, a tree limb dislodged and floated away. No harm done with either thing in the River but goes to show we have to be careful even in our home base water.
