I'm thinking about going away this weekend should I be concerned about the Weather? There may be some affect of the storm heading our way. If so would I be better off heading to the Sound say Norwalk or the Channel Club assuming I can get a slip at either?
 
Yes you should be concerned with the weather.

Check your insurance policy, look for the clause about no coverage for names storms.

If you dare to venture east possibly towards the worst of it you are taking more chance than you should. Head up river and you will be safer IMHO.

I have a rez at the Channel Club and wonder if it will be safe down there.

There is a chance we might get slammed. Only time will tell.
 
I was afraid you would say that. This looks like the last chance I have to get away for the season. I was hoping to do something other than Rondout but I may head there I may be safer there then in my slip.
 
Believe it or not back when Floyd hit, we had two Browards in behind F dock broadside to the dock at the very down stream end of the marina. As well they had a big old Hatteras lashed to all the poles on the fuel dock. The current was so strong the poles bent over and the fingers leaned down stream racking both main docks permanently. Not sure if they ever did get them straight again.

And yes, our insurance was held up when we wanted to go to Liberty Landing one year. A named storm put the kabash on the trip. At least that's what they say. I'm thinking it was actually Jonathan and he didn't want our company. ;)

And yes, this storm is starting to get me nervous.

I understand the Travelift at Liberty is under going a cable refit and won't be able to haul any boats this week. Great timing.
 
Yes it slowed down some and it's not turning as much. Could be ugly for L.I..
 
I decided to go to Rondout for the weekend Sat and Sun night I will return on Monday.
Anyone else going to be up there this weekend? It would be nice to meet up with a few others running from the storm:}
 
We're going to roundout as well on Saturday-Monday. We're staying at Roundout Bay Resstraunt and Marina. They have a deal for 2 nights $40 a person includes dockage a BBQ, Dinner, bands, the works.

Is this where your staying.

No we are staying at Rondout Yacht Basin it is much closer to town and I think you would probably like it better but they are pretty booked up. There is also the town dock but on a holiday weekend it would be tough to get a slip. Enjoy it's a bit load for me at night. Maybe I will stop by with the dink and say hello. When are you leaving on Saturday?
 
if the weather doesn't alter or cancel our trip (a real possibility at this point), we'll be staying at the roundout yacht basin sunday night.
 
We were looking for a marina with a few amenities for the kids so the town dock was out. I couldn't remember what the marina you stay at was called and didn't have much time to plan for this weekend so my wife threw this one in front of me and I said fine. They did offer us a quiet slip becaue we have kids, so we'll see what that entails.

I still haven't had a minute to plan this out yet. Not sure what time we're heading up, but probably pretty early. Low tide is 2PM so we are pretty open to leave any time as long as Earl keeps his distance. I have a dink, but no motor yet so I'll be relying on a cab to town. Give me a call if your around and want to enjoy a drink or 2.

Based on the current forecast we are heading to the Channel Club tomorrow AM and are praying to the weather gods that this storm will get pushed far out east past LI and Mass.

The little boat is tied to the dock like a woman lying, ties up on train tracks in an old western.

why don't you wait for the storm to pass on Saturday. When are you going? last report I heard the storm will be here Fri evening and last only 7 - 10 hours then things get nice. I wanted to go to CC but you talked me out of it. Have a great time and be safe.

I read his reply on Thursday AM and it said he was leaving tomorrow morning AM I didn't realize he posted it at 11:18 PM. In either case I would still wait for after the storm unless he feels it will be safer going further south for the storm. It was at his suggestion that I choice to head the other way I guess He just didn't want to see me there:)
I'm hoping the storm lays down quick and I have a smooth ride.
 
Came down on Thursday, dead calm right now. I don't think it will be bad here, the ocean was flat calm this morning, the suffers and body boarders were out playing in the surf. They are expecting a very high tide though, we moved our car to high ground in the parking lot.

Come on down, there have been some cancellations!!!!
 
We just got back from Cataumet Mass. and they are hauling boats.
 
Looks like we got lucky this time. I'm heading out in the morning to Rondout they said they will find me a place but I not sure how tight it will be. We'll make do. Dan if your are around and feel like stopping by to say hello please feel welcome.
 
All hell is breaking loose here at PBM. My boat actually just rocked about one inch!!! Time for more lines and fenders!!!!
