I watched "Undercover Boss" tonight. It was about KOA. They opened up with a segment at Tower Park Marina! It was fun to see the place again.
Later they also had some scenes at the KOA Santa Cruz.

I bet there will be reruns of the show if anyone missed it and want to see KOA up close and personal.

In addition to staying the night tied up to their docks in our various boats for over thirty years, we've stayed in our motorhome at Tower Park both before and after they became a KOA park. Usually for just a one night stay (it's a nice getaway when we just want to get out of the house) or when our motorhome club holds an event there.

Prior to being taken over by KOA, the park was overpriced and not nearly as well kept as it is now. In our opinion, it still isn't a five star rated park, but it is getting better.

Our biggest concern is that some of the residents of the trailer park meander over into the RV park and spend way too much time eyeballing the RV's and their sites. Sure, some of them might just be interested in looking at the nice RV's, but on the other hand, some of them might be casing the place out for a later return under the cover of darkness, if you know what I mean.

RV'ers have a habit of leaving nice equipment unattended outside in their site during their stay. Some of the items might include nice lounge chairs, BBQ's, coolers, etc... and they are all easy to just pick up and walk away with. The park put up some gates in an attempt to seperate the two areas, but it can hardly be considered "Fort Knox".

The other thing that we noticed when KOA took over was that they gutted the store and replaced a lot of the boaters merchandise (parts, nautical items and gifts, clothing etc..) with more RV supplies (of course), yellow KOA t-shirts and hats (as all KOA's have) and expanded the food and wine/beer inventory. Most of the fishing equipment is gone and there is a lot of floor space just sitting vacant.

Gone is the enjoyment of walking off a meal at the restaurant by window shopping and browsing for goodies in the store to take home. We especially liked the locally made knick-knacks and hand-crafted items that the previous store seemed to always have on hand.

But hey, they are a business and not a museum, so I guess they felt that the change was necessary.

In addition to belonging to Thousand Trails and Coast to Coast, we have been KOA members since '91 and stay in quite a few of the KOA parks as part of our motorhome travels.

We rate the Tower Park KOA a 7 out of 10.
