Now that we're all gearing up for the boating season, what Great Lakes travel plans do you have in mind?

Personally, I'm thinking of taking the boat to Saugatuck for a long weekend (we usually drive there). I may boat up to Door County as well.

Where are you headed?
 
Unfortunately, working at a marina, I don't get alot of time to go on trips. I'd like to head to Detroit/ Windsor, and maybe Lemmington, but we'll see
 
you should meet up with us in Lake St. Clair in July.

Our proposed float plan takes us from Cedar Point up through the Detroit River to Lake St Clair. From there we'll work out way up the Ont side of Lake Huron up to Tobermory, then due west to Michigan and up to Mackinac Island, through the straights and around to Bay Harbor, Charlevoix and Leland, then coming back down along the Michigan coast.

If fuel prices keep climbing, I'll have to scale back. I want to go as far as Mac Island though.
 
We keep our boat in Door County, so that's where we'll spend most of our time. We usually get up to Fayette once or twice a summer, Washington Island a number of times. Maybe we'll take a trip to Beaver Island. We went last year and really enjoyed it, but we didn't do any exploring on the island.

How long does it take to get from Cedar Point to St. Clair? I have wanted to do that trip.
 
It's 100 statute miles from Cedar Point to MacRay Harbor (NW corner of Lake St Clair). At our cruising speed of 22-24 knots, it's consistantly a 4 hour trip in (decent weather).

Once in Tobermory, if you have the time you could travel north to Killarney and continue west through the "North Channel" (North side of Manitoulin Island) on your way to Mackinac Island. Very beautiful area. Not to far out of your existing plans.

We took two weeks in July last year and left Lake St.Clair, went up the Canadian side of Lake Huron to Tobermory, across to Killarney, through the North Channel (some great scenic spots to anchor out)and then came back down the US side of Lake Huron and back into Lake St.Clair.

Excellent trip. Looking forward to going back and spending more time in the North Channel.

We did the trip you described 2 years ago - had a great time. We haven't been to Lake Michigan in several years now, so we thought it'd be fun to get back that way. Several friends/neighbors have expressed the desire to see Tobermory, so that stop began as a way to cruise with friends. (I'd otherwise relax the schedule and just shoot up along the Michigan shoreline)
 
Lake St. Clair in July sounds like a cool trip but if fuel prices keep climbing we may have to scale back a little "like to the fuel pier and back to the slip". I changed it around a bit. we are looking forward to making some trips this summer but I'm sure it will be maybe one longer trip and the rest to just be local Island hopps.
 
To Lake Erie for Walleye. To Lexington for their festival. Other than that staying local, work on the boat, hook, fish and Just Reelax!

We're headed to Traverse City 7/5 for the Cherry Festival and the air show over the bay with the Blue Angels. After a couple days, up to Suttons Bay, to Elk Rapids, then maybe Bay Harbor or into Lake Charlevoix ending up at the Charlevoix City Marina the following weekend for the fine arts fair there in the park.

in Aug im thinking about coming down there to PIB and CP.... as long as i have a boat by then
 
also, if you and your group need to get around the MacRay area, we have a "boaters shuttle" that will take you to the west marine, any bar/restaurant, metro... basically anywhere you want for free. just call and they will pick you up and take you. then, call again when your ready to leave.

i will post the number once i make sure it hasnt changed from last year.

We have used the shuttle to take us from Metro Beach Metro Park to MacRay Harbor for their buffet. MacRay Harbor has a great buffet with a fantastic view out over Anchor Bay (Lake St.Clair).

The shuttle is handy to go pick up supplies or grab a bite to eat/drink somewhere.

Thanks Mike. I knew about the buffet as that is where we keep our boat. I just didnt know about a shuttle. Funny how sometimes you miss things right in front of your face. lol

Hey Mike R - likewise - here's hoping that you can make it down to Erie. Were you implying that you don't have a boat now? I was hoping for another ice video. Now is about the time...?!

We keep the boat at MacRay for the winter. We haven't had a summer dock there since '02 or so, but she's a loyal chuck of fiberglass and hasn't spent a winter anywhere else.
 
we're going to go to Florida with ours from Muskegon Mi sometime in August.. Relocating to the Stuart area..

So Steve, was this relocation based on the winter weather? Did you decide you just couldn't take it anymore? It'll be tough to get used to year-round boating.
