Here's a big question and I'll bet not a simple answer.

I'm looking for a solid boat mechanic in the Roundout area -- someone who travels for some maintenance and other work. Anyone out there that knows their stuff (and is trustworthy)?

Trustworthy and mechanic - Is there such a thing anymore? I could not find one last year when I was broke down.

Bill take a look several post down to topic same as yours. the other boaters on here were a big help and i was able to find someone local and honest it was an inexpensive fix. but had he told me it was something else and was going to cost more than it did. i would have had to get a second opinion or anti up. either way turns out he was a great and honest guy. left the parts he replace on the boat.

Bill, I would suggest Nick Roberti at Nick Roberti's Marine, 845-336-8111. A MerCruiser certified shop, he is the local "go-to" guy and he'll likely be happy to help you out, if he's not too busy. His prices are probably on the high side, but within reason given the circumstances. And he's the best around as far as I know...

In all honesty, the traveling "mechanic" I go to the most these days is......ME. Since the newest boat I own is 27 years old and powered by Ford, not GM engines, I've found precious few mechanics willing to service them. I'm sure Nick would help me but I've never had to ask him. I've become pretty good at handling my old scows on my own. Your boat, being newer and GM powered, is more popular with the mechanics and parts are readily available...

Thanks for the input. Roberti's is definitely the top contender in the area but was looking for an alternative since he's pretty booked up, and well, as a choice. Seems like a lack of certified, or capable/reputable boat mechanics in the area. Given how many boats out there, you'd think there would be more mechanics around.

But I found someone recommend to me by a friend and will let you know how it goes, if anyone's interested.

I would appreciate you letting us know how it goes. I too struggle with a 31 year old boat suffering the ills of non-operation for 3 years. Some issues are going beyond my (limited) realm of expertise
