Planning a one week trip to Block Island for the 1st week of August(2008). Anyone interested?

What size boat do you have? Have you ever made this trip before?

Yes, but it's been awhile. I have a 34 ft. Flybridge Conv. B.I. is 42 nm from my marina. Will take about 2 1/2 to 3 hrs. rb2@gr5t about 15 knts. Will be staying at Champlin's Marina in New Harbor (Great Salt Pond). I think they're getting $4 a ft these days.

You must be familiar with Hamburg Cove if your homeport is Portland. What a great place! We usually go there for our first shake down" cruise of the season.

Just wanted to point out something about this thread that may not be obvious to less seasoned mariners. Even though Steve has made the trip to block before he is still reaching out to others to join him on an upcoming trip.

Now it could be because he is lonely. Or it could be because he likes to be in the center of a crowd. But I'm betting it is because he likes to be as safe as possible by traveling with other boaters. I'm sure he could make the trip alone but it seems he'd rather travel with others if possible. Always a smart move! There are definitively people that could learn from your example Steve.

Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I could easliy make this trip with just me and the wife. However, I figure the more the merrier. Boating is a great way to meet new people. I think it's safe to say that anyone looking in the New England Cruising Club would be looking for possible trips they could take advantage of in the N.E. area. Isn't that the puropse of this forum?

Steve
We go to the Cove quite a bit. Usually over night a few times a year. Its only 15 minutes down river from our marina. We keep our boat in Deep River.
I also must say the more the merrier as well. Wer have a group of about 12 boats that travel together regularly. We do Block, Greenport, Sag, Essex, Westbrook, Mystic and of course a few others as well.

Bob, here's your chance, hook up with these guys and give it a go!

Those are some great detinations. Have you ever gone to Three Mile Harbor for Bastille Day? I think it's around the 14th of July. Awesome fireworks! Harbor can get crowded though. Ever visit Cedar Island Marina in Clinton? It's our 2nd year there and we love it!

We are doing Cedar Island for the first time this year. Really looking forward to it. Seems like a nice place. Love their reservation polices as well. VERY fair. Only $30 deposit for Friday or Saturday arrivals and NO $ required for reservations on other days. We will be there July 6th and 7th.

Stop by and visit! We're on "G" dock. Our boat is "Reward".

Steve~ we've mete lots of great people on this site over the years. TMH raft-up with a group from your marina last year. Perhaps you know Tammy and Dennis, 27 Formula PC?

Yes! We were there! I remember you guys! That was lots of fun. We are planning on doing it again this year, interested? By the way, Tammy and Dennis are getting out of boating. Boat is up for sale. Needs major ($$$$) repairs.

Why are all the good people always on G dock? (Happens to be the dock we are on as well!)

Is the Aqua Restaurant. still - we used Cedar as a stop over port often

Steve- remember you too! - and absolutely interested in TMH this year. That was really fun last year - jumping off the bridge of the Silverton. It was higher than it looked. Looking forward to it again. Too bad D/T are getting out. Only thing, it's hard to sell a boat right now. Perhaps they will still be in this summer by default.....

Chris Craft project boat is exciting, and also an on-going (time consuming) thing. Have it all apart (nothing new), but need to call in extra help soon to finish it. It's the only way it will get done.

Looks like you have quite a few great destinations this year. We are trying to fill in the blanks for our trips as well - let's hook up - Block is always a great spot. Enjoy the snow - Paul
