does anybody know the story about the two ships parked by Helen & Hermins? where they come from, etc...

Been wondering the same thing. They're huge and look really out of place there.

Crazy how they get them there I mean how deep does the water have to be?

Just went by there today. 4 vessels actually. Some got old coast guard markings.

Went by yesterday and found some info on one of the ships. I recognized that it was a minesweeper and did a search on it. Turns out that it was the former Canadian minesweeper HMCS Chaleur. It was actually in good condition when the pictures were taken as recently as 2007. Not sure what shape it is in now. If you go to http://www.keller.com/dan/lucid.html you can find all kinds of info on it along with the USS-Lucid which is being restored in Stockton.

On another note, I noticed that the old minesweeper, USS Advance which had been sitting outside of Holland Riverside Marina for years was burned to the waterline. I hadn't heard about this, but found out that it happened this past Thanksgiving. Surprised that it wasn't set fire long ago and I knew it was only a matter of time before someone did it.

thanks for posting the info on that, very interesting. I think it would have been ok to live on in sf bay, but could you imagine how hot it would be in there when parked in the delta on a weekend like this last weekend?

That big one looks like it was a small cruise ship at one time, so maybe they could make a floating hotel full of river rats out of it.
