Update on Buff Magic and Pro polish.

My boat has been in the water about two months. I wash it at least once/ week with Kit car wash/wax. The black streaks are still coming off completely with each wash. By now with wax, they would remain after a wash. I applied a 2nd coat of Pro-Polish to the flybridge today. I usually re-wax the topsides at about this point in the summer. This is the first time I haven't had to work any black streaks out. I give this stuff an A+. Just bought some more at Boatfix.
 
I have re-applied any Buff Magic or Pro-Polish since I first put it on early spring and people on the dock still can't believe they are looking a a 20 year old gelcoat. The stuff is amazing!
 
Agree with the above on the black streaks - they are easily removed. Haven't re-applied Pro-Polish either, and the shine continues. Totally impressed - Thanks Johnathan.

Steve - fun raft-up! Good seeing you and the Admiral again. The pulled pork sandwiches were especially awesome with "Mr Stubbs" sauce. Hello to the gang.
 
Ok. Everything was going well with my BuffMagic + Propolish job on the Carver. So well I decided to apply to my classic ski boat this week before putting her up for the winter. I rotary buffed the hull with BM (looks great). Shook up the extra bottle of PP I bought last Spring, opened the cap and clear liquid shot out (uh-oh). Taking the cap off I found the contents separated and the solids looked like curdled milk. I looked over the bottle completely, no indication of temperature concerns on the label. I kept the bottle at the marina on my Carver where it can be exposed to warm temps when closed up - does anyone know if PP goes bad with heat, has a limited shelf life, or do I have a defective bottle (almost full)? I want to avoid repeating this after going for my next bottle.
 
Not sure if it has a shelf life, but I bout a bad bottle, and they replaced it for me
 
You have a defective bottle.

I too have purchased a couple of bottles this past season that had separated. I returned them and they were replaced without question.

In my opinion this problem appeared to be one of freeze/thaw stability. Certain products can be frozen and thawed several times without affecting the overall solution. However, other products will be ruined after one freeze thaw cycle. They will not go back into solution.

1st, there is no "wax" in these products. For Buff Magic, I apply it by hand with a foam pad, then buff it out with a rotary buffer. I apply pro polish by hand and remove it by hand. I'm trying to avoid products with wax as they yellow the gelcoat and actually attract and hold onto dirt.

What type of pad do you use on your buffer? Also what RPM do you use?
 
I use a foam pad and turn the buffer on to about half max speed.

your post was timely, for years now I have not been happy with wax, gonna give it a shot with this stuff and do it myself.

Do you use the Lake Country foam pads? They have several choices (color) based on the type of product to be used.
 
Walter, I think they do have it at Boatfix. Ask Sibley. James, i just get a 3M yellow foam pad with a velcro back. If I use foam pads, I seem to get less swirls.

Is it better to order the 22oz size rather than the gallon pale, I am worried about the shelf life? Also will the 22oz and 16 oz be enough to do my boat.

i am a bit confused. Do you use buff magic, then pro polish? What is the recommended process that worked for everyone here?

buff magic followed by the pro polish. Buff magic applied with a chip brush then spread with a 1700 rpm rotary buffer till product is worked out. Followed by application of pro polish applied using orbital buffer, worked in well, left to haze over,where I then remove the haze a buff out with terry towels by hand.Excellent product for older gel coat
 
Walter, I did my entire boat and used 1 1/2 cans of Buff magic and a little bit more than one bottle of Pro Polish.
