I installed a Purasan Hold n Treat system last fall, but had to connect the 1.5" discharge to a 1.25" thru hull for the discharge. Twice since then, I've had pressure build ups in the system while operating that caused the existing diaphram pump between the holding tank and the Purasan to blow a fuse due to the high pressures.

I found the smaller thru hulls were stopping up (partially due to different TP in use??) and created a blockage. I "fixed" the problem by installing a ball valve in the discharge line to isolate the Purasan and a "cleanout plug" (from the home center) that I can attach a garden hose to flush out the thru hull. Now I can clear a blockage in 15 minutes with a quick blast of a hose through the thru hull.

On the next pull out, I plan to install a larger thru hull to offset the problem, but I think I'll still keep the clean out plug arrancement for "belt and suspenders" comfort.

You are saying the output of the Hold n Treat system is 1 1/2"? The discharge of my macerator and thrugh-hull is 1" and it's a standard macerator that I assume is what most boats are equipped with. So I'll have to pull my boat to install a Hold n Treat system?

BTW: I've been using "Scotts" brand single ply tissue (the cheap stuff) from the grocery store for a few years in two different systems and never had a blockage.

Ron, the discharge from most macerator pumps is 1", but in the case of a Hold N' Treat system, the macerator pump is only used as a transfer pump to transfer the contents from the holding tank to the Lectra/San or Purasan for treatment and overboard discharge. The discharge from either of the two treatment systems, to the overboard through-hull, is 1 1/2", and requires a 1 1/2" through-hull.

And yes, using the cheap single-ply toilet paper from the grocery store, should be just fine. There's no need to buy the $4.00 a roll biodegradeable stuff from a marine distributor. The $.69 a roll stuff from the grocery store (or dollar store) works just as well.

Thanks, that's good to know in advance.
