I bought this stuff thinking it would tell me how to use it but no... anyone here use this stuff? How much do you put in and when...?

Thanks for any info.

Don't use, never have used it, never will use it. Formaldehyde just kills the smell btr does nothing to breakdown the waste in the tank. KO or Odorlos is the only stuff I ever use.

I agree with Mike - I use KO & Odorlos as a back up- the other stuff is just smell fresherner

I'm just the opposite. No luck and no use with odorlos, KO,etc. I use formaldehyde stuff. Put 4 oz. in fresly pumped out tank. with some water. When you're done with it on last day for the weekend, make sure to flush water thru afetr your last potty flush. Then do one more flush with an ounch of the formaldehyde stuff.

Mike's right, it only kills the smell. Since I've been doing the followign for the last 2 years I've had no smells at all. Get a liquid product called Push from Betco. It has live bacteria that eats proteins like poop and pee. I put a few ounces in my bilges about once per month, then spray ome on the outside of my vacumn generator, holding tank and hoses. Totally kills the smells.

I use the Sealand stuff. 8oz for a 40 gallon tank is what it says on the bottle. I just pour some in, about 12oz if I had to guess. Never had a problem, and my head has NO smell whatsoever. I do have vacuflush which uses fresh water to flush so if you flush with raw water, I'd go with one of the good bacteria products like Raritan KO. If you've used the formaldehyde stuff before, you have to flush the tank out several times before switching to KO or Odorlos. The Sealand bottle says it breaks down waste, but I'm not going to look and see if that's accurate. [xx(]

Doesent sealand warn against chemicals in their hoses???

I'm seeing double.

I'm seeing double.

I used KO only. Worked great.

Formaldehyde. But heads are used as urinals only. (mostly)

None of the bacteria products will work on urine only - you must also have fecal matter in the tank for either Odorlos or KO to work. They work via biologic breakdown (one bug eating another bug) and if there's no "food" in the tank for them, they die off in short order. You shouldn't ever use a holding tank for urine-only, and expect it not to smell.

Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen, and is listed as a Hazardous Material, so I'd shy away from it whenever possible. Plus, I've been told by a chemist that formaldehyde doesn't actually kill the smell - instead, it disables the smell receptors in your nose, so that you can't smell anything. The stink is still there, it's just that you can't smell it. Don't know if this is true or not, but when I "dose" the tank in my RV with formalin-base powder from Wal-Mart, I do notice an irritation in my nasal passages, so maybe there's actually something to that claim.

So you're saying if I have urine only waste, Odorlos and KO are useless... ?

you can always throw in a ham sandwich

Inky, yes, that's correct.

None of the bacteria products will work with only urine - THEY GOTTA BE FED !!! [:-jump] [:-jump] [:-jump2] [:-jump2]

Urine (unless you're a real sick person) is sterile - so there's no nutrient for the bacteria in the tank - you need to have the real thing!

There are some pumpout stations that have notices saying you may not pump out if you are using formaldehyde treatment agents.
