VACATION!!

Sorry to hear the weather has been less then ideal but it sounds like you are having a good time. I just started planning my trip for 8/7 I only wish the slip fees were that cheap. Montauk is $5 per ft plus $30 for power and $15 facility fee, but I really like the place so I guess it's worth it.
BTW nice pictures but what are all your friends doing on my boat?

$5/foot? Sheesh. That's an incentive to anchor and break out the dink.

$265 a night to sleep on your own boat!! Do you at least get turn down service?

I was going there this month...until I heard the prices. No thanks!

Which marina you're going to?

We're going to Montauk Yacht Club. The $15 dollar charge is for use of the facilities, Pool bus service to town etc. Yes it's pricey but I had a great time and I look forward to going back.

I'll be there the week after your trip. This is our first visit there, what are the activiies in town you can recommend?

The town basically sucks, not much to see or do.

There is a nice beach and a few good restaurants.

Montauk is where you fish, go to the pool and then go to dinner. At least for me anyway.

Yep - Exactly. We stay at Star Island Yacht when we go out there. They have a small pool, snack bar, ship store, clean showers/bathrooms.

Made it back from Wildwood to Lavellette today in snotty 3' - 5' seas, not a fun ride at all. Covered in salt and exhausted. Weather does not look like it's changing for the next couple of days, so tomorrow might be our window to get home.

Hogan it's supposed to be a nice weekend I'm not sure about the sea conditions hopefully it will be calm for you.

As for Montauk I'm not a fisherman I like the town the beach and Restaurants and the marina is very nice, great pool and snack bar. Last year we took out a kayak for an hour or two had a blast. If I don't have as good a time this year I wont go back. Let's face it block is no bargain either. I try not to think about the pricing when I'm on vacation.

Marine forecast is better earlier. Looks like 2-4s.

Agree with Jonathan about Montauk. If you are not going to fish, you had better think about relaxing.

We've stayed at both Star Island and MYC. Both have their +/-. I think Star has live music on Sat nights by the pool.

Best trip to Block was staying on a mooring.

Yesterday sucked for us as well Mike. The ride to Block today was EXCELLENT!

BTW - I had a mudslide in honor of Gina's B-day.

Kurt, thanks for the offer for the trip planning advice. The problem with groups is everyone has there own agenda and needs. The original trip had 5 different stops in the Chesapeake but it got whittled down in an effort to please everyone. I agree with Mike, a long way to go to visit 2 places no matter how nice they are.

Wow Rommer you went from South Jersey to Block that's a nice trip. Did you stay outside or go through the sound? My wife just told me last night that she is looking forward to a mud slide and a lobster roll at Block. Three weeks and counting.

I can't understand why anyone would stay at Star Island over the Montauk Yacht Club. MYC is a true resort, with all the amenities while Star is a fishing marina.

Fixed docks vs floating docks for one. and you can still walk over to MYC for dinner or a massage. IMO MYC is designed to suck as much money out of you as possible while Star is more laid back.

Block is about a buck a foot CHEAPER then the prices I'm seeing for MYC and they have mudslides with butterscotch floaters!

Dave, we went via Liberty Landing. Met up with some friends and then headed to Block via the Sound. Cape May to LL via Atlantic Highlands for fuel took almost 8 hours as the conditions were horrible. Ocean was really bad and we headed in at AC. Took the inside route up to Manasquan and then back out into the slop.

From LL to Block was a breeze. Excellent conditions and the tide was with us most of the way. 5 hours from channel to channel.

Sounds like you guys had a great vacation except for a little rough water which can be expected. For my size boat Block is only 50 cents less a foot and I agree with Hogan MYC seems like a resort. I will visit Block as well we had a great time last year.

Some of us actually do go fishing, that's why!!!

Montauk is work renowned for its fishing not the marina resorts.

All I need is a snack bar and pool, they have both, plus the ships store has anything else I need. Floating docks are a plus too.

It's much more intimate at Star, the staff and owner gets to know you personally over the years and that makes a huge difference when you go back there. Your not just a number, they remember you and your name.
