Installed new shaft and ball last year. Worked good for about 1 year. Noticed that once in a while water would drain out of bowl. Cleaned seal and ball good. Same problem. Upon further investigation, discovered that when sometimes foot lever is let up ball closes too far leaving a very small gap for water to slowly get sucked down. Is there an adjustment on the foot petal for the range of motion for the ball?

Since I'm recently familiar with that mechanism, I can tell you that I didn't see any way to adjust the foot pedal or the ball. You might try centering the ball after a flush by moving the pedal a little with your foot. The way the pedal engages the spring cartridge there is about a 1/2 inch of play.

I don't know the answer one way or the other, but have sent the question out to one of my mentors. Will pass along any reply I get.

Thanks lark, i have been doing that and it works fine but guests have a hard time with it. Just looking for a permanent fix

do you have an older style mansfield head? If so. You cannot get a replacement seal for them and you must buy a new base assembly.

When you replaced the ball you may have noticed that the new shaft was metal as opposed to plastic. They had an issue with the old plastic shafts shearing off. I recently had to replace the spring cartridge because of a similar issue. The new shaft will never wear out however it can cause the ssuare slot in the cartridge to "round" out. Place your hand firmly on the top of the ball and push the pedal a bit, if you have slop in it you need a new spring cartridge.
