Vacu-Flush Problem

The boat is a 2004, that was originally placed in service in June 2006. I purchased this boat one year ago this week. This problem started about a month ago.

We have a vacu-flush system that has worked very well except for one issue. Occaisionally when we flush, by pressing the left side foot pedal, once we release the pedal, the ball does not retract to the original position. We have cleaned around the under lip of the opening and have cleaned the area. When this happens, we have to use our fingers to move the plastic ball to cover the opening and establish the vacuum.

This happens about once every ten flushes.

Any ideas as to what causes this or how to fix?

Get some "Head Lube" at your chandelry or just use some baby oil. Put it in with the water off and work the valve to get the seal covered.

It lasts a long time.

Sealand makes a cleaning cream that is applied with what looks like an abrasive tongue depressor. The most important thing though is that when you flush you must let the pedal snap back to complete the seal. Controlling the return will give you the problem you're experiencing.
 
I've used the SeaLand cleaner with the rough textured plastic popsicle stick and white cleaner. I then used furniture wax (Pledge) to lub the area. When flushing we quickly press the pedal and when releasing - quickly release it. Sometimes, that white ball just won't retract to the closed position.

I'll try the baby oil tomorrow night.

If you're like me, you've read the manual but have you loosened the screws on the water valve slightly. The only thing after that is the spring cartridge but the manual suggests a replacement. I've had all sorts of headaches with the holding tank and generator but thank goodness never the bowl. Good luck
 
I have not loosened the screws on the water valve because it seemed to work ok for 6 months or so and I'm chicken to try. Today I tried the baby oil treatment and it worked for today. I can't be on the boat tomorrow (unfortunately) but will see how this works by Monday. I'll let you know.

When you flush, do you pull "UP" before you press the pedal down?

About once every two months I fix a mixture of warm water and vinegar and let it sit in the bowl for about five minutes and then flush it, for us it has kept the seal pliable and working.
 
I used the baby oil trick and it worked well for a few days. I have yet to loosen the screws and will try that next. So far the holding tank and vacume system are working well.

For the last several weeks, a shot of baby oil worked (lubed) in a dry toilet bowl before we leave on Sunday and an occasional shot while cruising has ensured flushing success.
