My pump motor stopped working today. There is power going into it. Is this a simple bolt off bolt on repair and where can I pick up a new one?

How do you know it's the pump? Check to make sure you didn't hit the sleep switch on the control panel. I thought my went at the end of the summer then I noticed the switch got hit. It's was a big relieve!

well, he said there is power going thru it he probably checked with a meter...

it's indeed just 4 bolts to remove the pump motor...i dont' think sealand sells direct but you can find one of their dealer. or you can probably pull the motor and get it to a good alternator/starter shop, most of them can repair just any electric motor...

Yes I did check with a meter. Depending on cost a rebuild may be a good idea.
Actually sealand does not make this motor anymore, 299 for a new kit. I will try the rebuild route.

They do not make the old style motors. All of the motors sold come in a kit with a piston, due to the fact that they're all quiet motors.

You can try to have a electric motor shop rebuild it, let us know how it went.

You are right, they want to sell the kit for 299.
I took the motor off today and brought it to a rebuild shop.
Due to New Years and vacation I am looking at three weeks.

Jeff,
I'm very surprised to hear the motor is bad.
they don't go bad. This is the first time i've heard anyone with a bad motor, but i guess it can happen.
Since you have it out, i would wire it directly to a battery source with an inline fuse, and see if it works.
Shake wires where they go into motor, to see if one is loose.
Usually when motors go bad, they will pull too much current and blow fuses and trip breakers. Bearings usually start to sieze up. I did not read that this was happening.
Does the motor turn by hand? Is there signs of rust or corrosion from water? What other signs are there, if any? Keep us posted.
Also, if it has power to the motor, check the wires going inside the motor housing for cracks, or broken conductors inside the insulation. Good Luck.

It is already at the rebuild shop.
It had stopped working. I turned it with a socket and it started again, then stopped.
I will let you know what happens.
Happy New Year.

2003. I will post and let you know how the rebuild goes.

I haven't touched mins since I got the boat 7 years ago. It's a 1983 model. Who knows how old that motor & diaphraghm are.

I guess you have better luck than me.
What part of Florida are you in?

Just got back from Puerto Rico and had a message from the electrical tech.
Replaced a wire that corroded and charged me 20 bucks.

Between Ft Myers & Sarasota

Beautiful area. We are thinking of moving to the westside in 2 years. I just need accesss to a major airport as I travel for work.
Thinking Tampa/St. Pete. We are going to Siesta Key in a few weeks for a weekend, we heard the beach is great.

Ft. Myers is nice too. Major airport and not as populated. Although that is rapidly changing. I live on the beach and housing prices on the water with a dock are really, really good right now.

siesta key has wide, white sandy beaches.

A nice change from Florida's east coast.

Both the Tampa airport and Ft Myers are large enough to offer good pricing and selection. The Sarasota airport if often less competitive.

Jeff, thanks for letting us know how it turned out for you. Glad to hear it was a cheap fix!
