So it took me about a year to definitively figure out what was causing me to lose water in my Vacuflush bowl. After changing the ball, ball seal it still would not hold water for any length of time. The root cause turned out to be the Sealand Clean n Green packets that dissolve in the bowl. I finally figured it out around the middle of last year after cleaning under the rim of the bowl seal. After doing this at least 20 times, I proved that it leaked every time after using them. Clean the seal, no leak. Bummer, because they work great.

I was already convinced but the ultimate test was the bowl holding water/pink antifreeze all winter. When I used the packets, the bowl would be empty in 30 mins or less. I even tried cutting the packets and pouring the contents into the line with the foot pedal held down, same result.

Has anyone else had this issue? I switched to the liquid which eliminates the leaking issue but creates a gross film in the bowl. It's also a lot messier.

Thanks
Bob

I was going to suggest putting the crystals in a cup of boiling water then once dissolved dump and flush.
I hate VF systems I dumped mine for a Raritan Marine Elegance and -0- issues in 5 seasons of use. I always had some issue with the SeaLand VF head.
I still use the SeaLand transfer pump it's great instead of constantly replacing run dry Macerator pumps that fail.

When we stored the boat I never left any chemicals in the bowl. Only water. Prior to storage I clean every bowl well, send vinegar through let it sit in the pump, and then flush with more clean fresh water. No seawater.
Storing up North in Kingston NY, I sent antifreeze through last and made sure the bowl was dry when I was done. The fresh water system would be blown out with air, then the heads would get the antifreeze. Once enough afreeze went through, the bowls were emptied without refilling because the fresh water system was dry.
