Can anyone help me trouble shoot why my head pump breaker trips when I flip it on? When I disconnected the ground wire off the generator vacuum motor, the breaker stayed on. Is the motor seized? Thanks for any help.

sounds like the motor is either seized or shorted... easiest thing to do i guess would be to remove the motor from the vac pump and see if it runs. if it does, check to make sure the pump itself isn't jammed... dont' think anything substantial could make it thru the duckbill but you never know. a few years ago, my son use papertowel, which partially got past the DB... pump wasn't fully jammed but was making some awful noises...

probably not.. depends what's wrong with it. you can probably get it repaired/rebuild by a starter/alternator shop though. if the pump is in the ER of a gas boat, make sure they keep the ignition protection ...

Motors usually do not go bad.
First, check amperage draw at the breaker to determine if the breaker is weak, and exactly what the draw is. Compare it to the nameplate on the pump.
chances are, the breaker is bad. I've seen vacuflush pumps run for weeks without shutting off, when someone did not put water in the bowl after flushing. After they were found, they still gave many years of service.
Disconnecting the ground wire does nothing but stop the circuit. Breaker will not trip, but pump won't run either.

Just had same problem. Motor works for a while but pops breaker after 30n seconds. The pump mechanism that goes up and down was corroded and locked in position. Motor still worked but couldnt move so pops breaker. Left housing in place, replaced with new motor and all is fine.

Worked on the boat over the weekend. I took the motor out and wired it directley to power. I ran slow but it ran. I don't know how quick these small motors should run. I remounted the motor after the test and now it works. Maybe there was some corrosion that loosened up. If it stops working again, I may just replace it. Thanks for everyones help.
