Vandalism on my boat

I posted a reply last night and somehow it didn't get posted, so I'll give you my recommendation again. There is so much grafitti that I don't recommend you try lacquer thinner or Easy Off. Easy Off is a very strong acid which will etch your fiberglass. Lacquer thinner, if not handled properly, will do the same. I recommend that you call a fiberglass shop. They will know how to remove the grafitti without damaging your boat. I hadn't originally noticed that it's an '89, so I'm gussing you don't have property damage insurance on it. Renter's insurance probably won't cover it, but it's worth a phone call. I recommend you report it to the police, if you haven't already done so. You then can expect to have to spend a few hundred dollars to have it cleaned. Years ago, when I was in the auto repair business, we occasionally got in a car that had been vandalized. If it was painted with lacquer, we'd us enamel thinner, and visa versa; but, we had to be very careful, and often had no choice but to repaint. You might find yourself in the same situation. Good luck.Hy

That is an easy conclusion to jump to but is there any other evidance?? No Racist words I can see on the boat. Those types of attacs are ofern on the house itself. KKK in Amity Harbor in 2012 of all places!!!!!

Real curious as to why you make this charge.

That was done to one of the boats in our fleet and we have no idea who the punks were who did it.

Speculation only leads to retaliation and more vengeance.

Newsday has a article that cops are looking for a graffiti artist in Huntington who has done this alot.
Could be same guy.
I would call cops, call insurance if you have, do the due diligence.
Then call a marine fiberglass mobile guy.
While he is at it have him fix other issues you have and when done and waxed it will be a nice looking boat!

Based on the artist's "work," i would say it was a kid or kids in the 11-12 range, someone found dad's spray paint and decided to do something rebellious the night before going back to school. Hope that's not a graffiti artist, if so, he should find a new passion in life.

I heard Searay racism still exists in pockets of the south, but up here on Long Island? j/k :)

Others have already suggested some thing to remove the paint. While it may not get all of it, a buffing afterward should finish up. As for the engine compartment vents I would order new ones unless the paint on them comes off easily.

Sorry to see that. WTF? I was a rebel and never did that kind of stuff. Just wrong. Good luck getting it off. Lots of good answers but I can't help on this one. Let us know.

After about 4+ hours of work, the boat is clean again. I used a combination of Lacquer thinner on some spots and the larger sections is used 3M super duty compound with my wheel. Took a lot of muscle, but it's done! Thanks for the suggestions!

4 hours thats not too bad . prob looks better than before the damage.

All the pores in the glass are open. You may want to get a treat it with RejeX to seal it. There are some here who use it and swear by it. Ditto on other sites.

4 Hours is amazing! Would love to see pictures of how it came out. I agree with the sealing the gel coat, I too use Rejex it's quick easy and works well.
