Vic, considering adding a Hold n Treat...

This may seem like a stupid question, but why the Hold N Treat, which looks like a 15-gal holding tank combined with an Electro Scan or Purasan, instead of just adding an Electro Scan or Purasan to the existing holding tank? Why add the extra 15-gal tank?
 
In his first post, Pascal noted that he was going to use the existing holding tank. You can order the Hold N Treat without a holding tank and just use your existing one.

That said, having just installed the 15 gal hold n treat system, I'm pretty surprised that the reality for my two heads is that 15 gal is going to be plenty. We rarely need to "hold". I just want to do that in small marina's. The majority of the time the system is on automatic and as soon as it gets above the "low" level the system treats it back down to the low level in one/max two treatments. So...the tank is not even filling up 90% of the time. 15 gallon will get me 2-3 days and we are rarely at a single marina for more than that.

So far, the system is exceeding my expectations and I don't have any plans to upgrade my holding tank. Installation was not too bad, but as Vic suggests, do your homework measuring the height distances to make sure the treatment tank has enough room (and take account of a vented loop too).

The directions are mostly okay, though I did catch where the schematic diagram and the step by step instructions were not in 100% sync. Follow the step by step directions and everything works fine. Had to do with the number of wires on the sensor. Also, two diagrams with little explanation as to which one applies. Still, technically a pretty easy install.
 
it depends on where you are. if you operate in NDZ like the keys or Long Island Sound, 15 gallons may not be enough depending on how many people you have on board. in that case, hooking up the purasan and HNT to an existing holding tank is a better option...
 
The system can be bought as an assembly like Ghost did or you can buy the components like I did and use your existing holding tank. Due to medical conditions that my wife has 36 gallons goes pretty fast for us we can go about 3 possibly 4 days if we leave urine flushes to 2 or 3 times before flushing. I have always had problems with my sanitation systems I tried SeaEra type with raw water flush (yuck), then a new Vacu-Flush which is when I replaced all sanitation hoses with SeaLand high quality hose. Then finally the H-N-T and Elegance and the PuraSan. We just went from April 1st to December 12th with -0- problems or odors.
I don't like the SeaLand pump I had times where it would not prime for minutes and it was below most of the tanks contents. I carry a spare Jabsco Macarator pump (the transfer) just in case. But with the level controls the only way to burn it out is by switching the H-N-T to override position. On my unit this seems to override all the sensors. Yes Vic is correct they give you a Bosh like relay to handle any transfer pump needed. Since I wanted a nice clean installation I added a BlueSea ATC fuse panel inside the vanity and new #4 wires to the Main DC breaker panel this way I can either use the house bank or battery bank #1 which is 2 31 series AGMs in parallel. I have 1 main DC breaker that feeds the sub covered ATC fuse panel. I used the same panel for my Raritan 4 tank monitor display which is in the head.

I didn't realize you could by H-N-T separately without the holding tank, which seems to be purchasing either the PuraSan or Electro Scan, or are there other components in the H-N-T system? Since I, like stated in Pascal's post, already have a holding tank larger than the 15 gal that comes w/H-N-T, I don't need another holding tank. Thanks for clarifying things a bit.
 
Randy, the Hold N Treat is available in two basic configurations: 1) complete system already put together, which includes a 15 gallon holding tank or, 2) a component system, where you buy the various components you need, and retain your existing holding tank.

The "component system" includes the controller kit, relay to activate a transfer pump, and foil tape tank monitoring system, and key switch. It requires a plastic or fiberglass holding tank - not a metal one. In addition, YOU must supply the treatment system (either an Electro-Scan or a Purasan #PST**03 only - not a #PST**02) and transfer pump (either a Jabsco-type macerator pump with rubber impeller, or a Sealand T-series bellows pump), and wiring and plumbing parts.

The complete system with 15 gallon tank also includes the treatment system that you choose (either Electro-Scan or Purasan, the controller, the transfer pump and relay, and it is all pre-wired. It requires a cube of space measuring approximately 24" on all dimensions. Complete units using the Purasan will have a main key switch to turn it on and off; models using the Electro-Scan will have the control and on, off, automatic information all programmed into the Electro-Scan controller, and doesn't require a key switch.

The component system allows a lot more flexibility, albeit being a more complicated installation.

Note ** in the part number requires that a DC voltage be entered in place of the asterisks, either 12 or 24. The Hold N Treat is not offered in 32 VDC
 
Thanks, Vic. That cleared things up for me. Will do more research in the spring to see if it'll be a worthwhile add-on to Sea Magic (I try to do something new for her each season).
