Can anyone offer instruction on how to change a broken fuel gauge at the inside helm of a 1978 Voyager?

they are commonly held in place by a U shaped bracket that bolts to the back of the gage. Why are you sure the gage not the sender or wire is bad?

I don't. I'm learning a lot here. From your response, I take it I should work through the problem as you described? I really appreciate the info --THANKS!

yes, get a cheap digital volt ohm meter and measure the voltage at the gage terminals (should be 12V or so) and then measure the resistance of the tank sending unit with the wire off and compare it to the spec you can find on the web. In the process look for broken or corroded connections. how does the meter behave?

Thank you, Bruce. I won't be able to get to the boat until tomorrow. $#rb2@gr5t! day job....

Yeah, that's good advice from Bruce. Check to be sure it isn't the sending unit because you'll have a heckuva time getting a new gauge to match. Of course, you can then do what I just did and just replace ALL the gauges so they match :) !!!
