WARNING!!

Thats right, they opened that new Dunkin Doughnuts up on Monday.

The Local Notice to Mariners states HUDSON RIVER: increased USCG patrols to promote boating safety in the area.
Rummors are: Drug interdiction on commercial(300ton)ships and barges that ply the quiet waters of the Hudson.
As far as the local police, most likely a revenue source as these towns and states are BROKE!

Hogan: if I'm thinking of the same incident Saturday evening. The boat was my slip neighbor. He got stopped by CG and Westchester police. CG told him PFDs were not accessible, but didnt cite him, but they did terminate his cruise and followed him back to marina. Then County police boarded for their $$. It was brand new boat and he had only CT Temp registration (no decal yet) that although legal in CT,NY,NJ they didn't like it and wrote a ticket that will be dissmissed. Waste of time, but if words were excahged, you'll always loose out there.

" ... Word has it they gave a ticket to someone because their life jackets "were not readily accessible".

My understanding is that the CG decided they were not accessible because they were still in the original packaging, and as such not ready for use.

When you get a CG safety check, they give you a copy of the report. If you show that report to the CG (during this season) when you get stopped again, they most likely will let you be on your way. That's my experience.

My marina is full of CG, all the time. Got boarded right when I pulled out for my first fishing trip this year. 3 CG boats checking anything that moved in NY Harbor that morning.

Jonathan, they are also known for copying the information from one form to the next. Been there dun that...

And I guess it would have been too much trouble to have them take them out of the packaging and let them go...

Thank God the Rockland Sheriffs are not such a-holes.

It's not just the water cops.....
I don't want to get to far off the topic, but up here in the Catskills, the DEP cops are getting so bad that we are expecting to hear that they are giving the cows a ticket for not crossing in the crosswalk.

.....the packaging thing is a bit of a stretch.

Jim just wait until they put the catalytic converters on the cow butts.

HA. Nope. Just a bit of frustration expressed with being boatless this summer. Gotta leave her south so we can do the Bahamas again in 2009-10. When we come back north in '10 we'll make sure to stop in Bow(over)line and guess where the bricks are. After all the banging we did on this trip Bowline can't be that bad. I put a stick on the rudders and spun the props through, finding at least three blades 1/4 inch out. They run fine once wide open or up on plane (for what it's worth) but when lugging onto plane things shake!
