Waste out the vent

Vacuflush head. Tank indicator shows 1/2 full. When flushing, water is shooting out the vent. The holding tank is not clear enough to determine if it is full and the indicator is incorrect. What else would cause this to happen?
 
Your tank is probably full even though the indicator does not show it. Pump it out and see if the problem is solved. What type of tank monitor do you have? Sometimes if they are floats, one will stick and show full or empty depending on which way it is stuck.
 
And you can expect to replace/rebuild the vent filter as it's toast once it gets wet.
 
Tank indicators are notoriously unreliable. Especially ones that use a float inside the tank, or a hollow column. Ones that use an external sensor tend to work better.

Your tank is full and the filter is now ruined. But before you buy a new one, just cut the old one in half and refill it with charcoal used in fish aquariums.

Interesting, and a great $$$ saver. Those things are expensive! How do you reattach it?

It does however take the balance of a Wallenda Brother to keep from falling off the bar stool in hysteria!!!
 
Not sure why everyone assumes you have a filter. You may not have a filter. I don't have one in my installation, for example. I would think if you had a filter it'd be harder for water to "shoot" out the vent wouldn't it? At least I would think that the likeliness of something else giving first, before waste actually makes it through the filter at a speed enough to "shoot out", would be higher.

Many times the vent line doesn't have a filter and if that's the case, unless it's been going on for some time, all he'll need to do is blow out the vent line and dry it.
 
Sealand requires a vent filter with the vaccuflush installs when done by their approved installers. I'd say 99.9% of vaccuflush installs have a filter unless a previous owner removed it Ernesto.
 
Their approved installers must not be allowed in Canada.

Seriously though, I've known of quite a few people that have had boats with vacuflush and they don't have a vent. In all honesty, I'm glad I don't have it... I'd hate to have another maintenance item that seems unnecessary.
 
i have VFs, installed by an approved installer a few years before i got the boat, no filter. dont' know why that would be required for VFs. i agree, if waste shot out of the vent, you dont' have a filter...

i have a 3 light tankwatch, had to clean it last year... no big deal. just pulled out the whole thing (3 rods), cleaned the float, put it back in. head work is not very pleasant but no worst than diapers !
 
I see someone did catch my pun... Had the tank pumped out. That was it. The indicator still shows 1/2 full. Glad to see the posts about not having a filter. I traced the vent line as far as I could and did not find a filter. The system was put in by a professional by the previous owner, had a new water heater installed at the same time.
