We just bought a boat with two Raritan Crown heads with their own holding tanks. I am planning to use Concentrate in the siphon reservoirs to cut down on odors in the bowl caused from raw water. I understand that Kills Odors can not be used in combination with Concentrate. I used OdorLos in my last boat but as this is an enzyme product similar to Kills Odors it would seem OdorLos would not be compatible with Concentrate either. Will the Concentrate along with an occasional Cleans Potties for a bowl clean up be effective in waste tank odor control?

RC is a very strong disinfectant. It will kill any little tiny organisms it comes in contact with, including the good ones. So you're right that KO is the same as the other product and the combination with RC won't work. If you put RC into your tanks, nothing good will come of it. Stick with KO or the green stuff from Camco at Wal-mart (similar, but much cheaper). A little bit of CP in your heads will keep the smell of raw water down when you leave the boat for a few days.

At first I was excited to have a system that injected disinfectant each time the head was flushed; once I found out that it is not compatible with K.O. I don't understand how Raritan expects to control tank odors. An email to their customer support explained the compatibility issues but gave me no alternatives for odor control when using Concentrate.

I too just purchased a boat with a Crown head and found that KO and CP are not compatible with the RC-too many damn letters if ya ask me. I've been a steadfast user of the KO and CP products for keeping the head under control in my previous boat. I'll be very interested in following this thread. Hopefully, Vic will add his wisdom to this thread.

I wonder if you could inject CP instead of RC for at least somewhat similar results?

Too bad you didn't get a freshwater head. No critter odors to deal with only human waste odors which the green stuff takes care off.
Actually if the hoses and holding tank are up to specs you don't even need Odorless. I still recommend it to help keep things tidy.

Bill,
What is "the green stuff"?

Either Odorlos or the Camco version. Same thing, basically. Camco version is available at Wal-Mart in the camping section and is much cheaper. I've been using it for year. Practical Sailor recently compared the two and found very little difference.

What Kurt (Mixman) said. However without a freshwater flush the head's rim will eventually stink due to dead sea critters.

use the green stuff, then fill with fresh water before you leave the boat it works for us...

Guys, Raritan recommends that NOTHING ELSE be used together with Raritan "Concentrate" (RC). If Concentrate doesn't do the job for you, discontinue using it and use the KO in the holding tank and a mixture of "CP - Cleans Potties" (also from Raritan) diluted 3:1 with water (3 parts water) in the Crown Head reservoir tank. CP and KO are compatible. Also, CP and Odorlos are compatible. RC isn't compatible with anything else (to my knowledge) - and I was with Raritan for 40 years.

The real green stff is $$$.00 money. The green stuff I flush with costs $$.00 but it saves $$$$.00 in the long run. My shot at bringing some humor into this economic slide we have all been going through since early 2008.

Vic, thanks for your response. I have decided to try the Concentrate first and if that is not satisfactory I will switch to a CP mix in the head reservoir and Odorlos in the holding tank.

Prince, if you go the 2nd way, be sure to pump out the system and flush it out a few times with clean water, to get rid of any Concentrate residue.

I will be sure to pump out and flush the tanks if I decide to switch from Concentrate. Thanks again, Vic!!
