Channel Dredging has been put off til fall 2014.

Power and water will be turned on May 10th

Buoys should be in place by end of month.

Its all I got sorry !

Waiting until the fall is very smart, after all, that's when all the boaters start using the channel.
 
And we never get nor'easters or Hurricanes in the fall to move all the sand around.
 
ITs been put off so many times already ... Its just stupid !

It's a decision made by a government bureaucrat, what did you expect?
 
Thanks for the update Rob, even if it wasn't what we wanted to hear! Last year was the first time in at least 15 years I didn't make it to Watch Hill once. I hope to get in at least one trip before I make the move to Montauk again. You'll have to go first and check the depths though ;)
 
I went once last year Memorial Day. It was so windy. Touched coming out. Hate this draft.
 
Tough gig here at WH, I am sure the Friends of Watch Hill wants this puddle dredged ASAP, but hey, It is not that easy when dealing with the state :(. Also a tough deal for for the concessionaire.

If I remember correctly, you were out of the channel. :)
 
I was there on Saturday at high tide. The entrance has become narrower, the sand is visible on both sides. I was in a 17' boat with an outboard so I had no problems. I spoke to the ferry company about the upcoming summer schedule and they said they are not sure the ferry can get through. She told me that the NPS large boat was stuck in the sand and had to be towed out.
I did not have a depth finder but you can easily see the bottom. The water is very clear.
 
The version I was just told was the NPS boat left the channel and ran aground . He was able to unground himself. . Nobody is aware of the ferry not being able to safely transit the channel. Channel will be marked as it was last year. Low tide sucked . Bottom line is its gong to cost the concessionaire $$ as larger vessels wont come . They make more money on the bog boats then they do on the small ones. No slip realignment has been done . that kinda sucks. Again it effects the concessionaire in the pocket book. One day government will smarten up of die !

I did not get there at all last year. Assuming I will have a boat, I was planning to go Memorial Day WE and of course the FOWH weekend.

Will look forward to more reports of actual conditions.

I went once last year on memorial day.
This year I won't make it as I will be away before memorial day and won't be back in time to get a slip.

Either way, I think Watch Hill is great, but not worth taking chance with draft.
I guess if you can plan to go in and out at high tide then it's good. Early in the season there never seems to be enough water in the bay!
 
So when they are done .... The channel will be 100' wide and 6' deep. Can we hold to this ... I read the article and laughed.

Just make sure your Sea Tow membership is up to date Rob and you won't have to worry. 100 feet wide or 10 feet wide, 6 feet deep or 6 inches deep, won't matter.
 
Last year the work boat snagged a crab trap in the channel.
It is a outboard, so they lifted it and pulled it off.
Seatow or no, when you get to low water you may have more than sand and mud to deal with!

With $80K in mechanicals under my boat, I don't take chances!
 
Atlantique won't let us in over the summer.
Seaview is $50 a night until Memorial Day, then it goes to like $350 a night!

I am not boating in May due to a business trip, so by the time I am back, Watch Hill will be blown out some!

Day trips to Hemlock or Sore thumb work.
We can always all anchor out for the night and run Gennys!
I am into that!
