I was also at Watch Hill this weekend and am going back again this weekend since the kids have Mon and Tues off. I didn’t think the mosquitos were any worse then years past if not a little better. I remember getting attacked on the walkway to the beach which didn’t happen this year. The electric has been adjusted so boats aren’t blowing the breakers anymore. Doug the new concessionaire has the contract for next year and the next 10 years if he wants it and improvements to the bathrooms etc. are going to get done.
Mosquitoes have been bad there for years. That’s why we stopped going there years ago. I remember when my kids were little having to huddle in the cabin in my old 300 Sundancer for a few hours in the evening until it was safe to come out.
Although it was an otherwise great place to go with them when they were little, the mosquitoes kept us away.
Now that they’re older, we have little reason to go there. Much better places to go in that price range.
These days I really wish that we were on the North Shore with more choices of destinations for overnights.

Funny, I don't recall ever encountering a mosquito in Florida. Bugs that crawl, yes. No See ums, yes.
I think right now the mosquitoes are everywhere. I saw something on a weather report a week or so ago that mosquito activity is 2-3 times normal right now.
I went to Hemlock Cove on my dinghy a couple weeks ago and anchored up and walked on the little beach area and got attacked by mosquitoes and couldn't stay long.
I went to Atlantique Saturday and while it didn't seem too bad we got bit by them on the boat and we were on the middle dock about as far away from land as you can get.
Then yesterday I went to Sailors Haven. Middle of the day, wind close to 15 knots out of the NE, never even thought of them being a problem. Started on the Sunken Forest path with a friend, didn't make it 200' before we both had a half dozen bites so turned around. The dockmaster said it's really been bad with all the rain.
So I don't think it's specific to Watch Hill right now. Although I think this is typically about the worst time of year, one cold snap and it will be safe again. But I'm planning to go this weekend if the weather cooperates and feed them some more. lol

Sorry but know need to pay 3.00 per foot to get eaten alive. Davis park seems fine. The new guy, Doug, at watch hill is an awesome caring guy, just the same crap their. Spray, Spray, Spray!!! Also, we contributed to friends of WH, Mosquitoes magnet were never activated!!! Bottom line, I love watch hill, all about the people there. But, seriously, If I need to stay in the boat what is the point going there??? Me, I could deal with this. My wife, never wants to go there anymore, don't blame her. John, out east is better and less expensive. This sand box sucks!!!
I was at Watch Hill Saturday into Sunday. The mosquitoes were not an issue at all. We were at WH last weekend as well and no mosquitoes then either. We walked over to Davis around dusk Saturday night and back around midnight, all without repellant. On another note, WH is now $2/ft. on weekends and $1.50/ft. weekdays.
Same here, I was there Saturday morning till Sunday morning, was bitten once. Walked around all afternoon with no repellent on. I even walked the whole nature trail area an hour before sunset without a problem (although did give myself a couple sprays of Off that time just in case). Went back out after I ate dinner on the boat and was walking all over till after 11pm with no bites. Slightest change in conditions can make a huge difference, we had a little north breeze and cooler temps and bugs were a non-issue.
I think it's actually $1 a foot during the week, I was at Sailor's Haven last Wednesday and that's what I was charged.

That is not true Walter. The Mosquito magnets have been active since the beginning of July.
