I have a 1991 Carver 33 aft cabin twin 454 330HP Volvos. Is there a easy fix for the deck plate on a Carver that keep letting water into the pipe other than replacing the deck plate. The plate is a Perko PKO1270DPGCHR chrome plate & it seems to be deteriating at the inner edges. I haver replaced the rubber O rings several times but keep getting water into the gas. I have tried different O rings with no effect. One side is fine the other side gets the leaks. Any other ideas ?

FYI - the area where the gas hose connects to the deck plate is almost impossible to get to without taking apart several cabinet side panels.

Kend, I had an issue last year with water in my fuel. It was one sided as well. Never figured out the real source. How do you know for sure that your is letting water in? Thanks John

Dropps of water were inside the fuel fill under the o ring. There was 5 inches of water out of the fuel filter in a quart jar..

replace the deck fill but another source of water can be over zealous hose spraying near the tank vent.

As a rule we find more water in the southern/west tanks. Of course this is based on their typical orientation at dockside. The water is a product of condensation that had developed from temperature changes from cool night air to hot evening sun. Most water is leaked in via the o-ring under the fuel cap.

Kend, did you ever replace the fills? If so, can you give me a summary of the project. Thanks

My Carvers had/has the Perko fuel fills made with the chrome plated crap. In salt water, zamack is only good for a few years. Being in fresh water, you can probably double the expected life of zamack fittings. Spend the extra bucks and buy stainless fuel fills and be done with it once and for all-just my 2 cents...but ya get what ya pay for.

Cmariner32,
Have you changed these fills yourself ? Is it a difficult job?

I have changed the fuel fills on my Carvers. It is not a difficult job as long as you get Perko replacements deck fills. The "other" brand fills have a different bolt pattern than Perko. Even the Perko stainless fill have a slightly different flange size which necessitates having to drill new holes in the fiberglass to mount them. It is a two person job though-one to hold the nut on the one end while unscrewing from topside for unmounting and remounting the deck plate. You also need bedding compound for the new deck plates.
