I got a flyer in the mail showing that this life jacket campaign sponsored by Cal-Boating, Boat US and USCG will be at Bethel Island in July and August:

July 21 Sugar Barge Marina, Piper Slu
August 4 Bethel Harbor, Piper Slu, western end

Then in September:

Sept 3 Tiki Lagun Resort, Turner Cut

That seems to be the last scheduled event. They are giving away gifts such as VHS HH radio; PFDs; tow tubes; and a drawing for $1000 gift certificate at Worst Marine. Boaters, who agree to sign a pledge card, will receive a life jacket. Participants will be required to give permission to the Department of Boating and Waterways to contact them in the future about their experiences with this life jacket.

Hey Flutterby, they were out at Tower Park for the 4th of July holiday. I wanted to see if I could get a free T-shirt because i'm into free swag, and I got a life jacket from them. This was no day-glo orange big puff life jacket that I assumed they were offereing. They had the Mustang belt back, and the SOSpenders inflatables. No they weren't the automatic versions, but pull the cord and tada, it's inflated. I opted for the SOSpenders version cuz well, it looks like it will work :). I've seen these in the store and they are not cheap, so I'm very happy about this, and yes I wore it all weekend, and intend on wearing it on the boat.

Glad to hear you got a free PFD! I have CG Aux model inflatable which I find very comfortable. I tested mine in a pool one time during Aux training. It shot be out of the water like a cannon! You might want to jump into the water and inflate it under "controlled" circumstances to see how it behaves. You don't want any surprises with your PFD if there is an emergency! I haven't tried my manual system. Should probably do that too. Nice to hear from you!

Mustang and SOSuspenders are trying hard to build support for mandatory "must wear" laws....

(Yes, I'm being cynical--but truth is sometimes cynical.)

Well, of course they are----it is good for their business! Whether or not I agree with mandetory wearing of PFDs, I don't fault their position. I already have a Stearns inflatable PFD.
