Weed control, salvage in 2011 budget

I believe our Delta weed control forum collegue is PJ Ryan, if you still read this board what have you heard about how the 2011 budget will affect weed control and salvage?

1-Is aquatic weed control in the Delta budgeted under Dept of Boating and Waterways?
3-Were you given an opportunity to provide input to the 2011 budget?
2-I read the new state budget is going to push more services down to the counties as a resident of Contra Costa county I know the salvage contractors are paid to clean up wreaks and abandon boats out of the county budget I guess we won't know the impact of the counties ability to keep their portion of the Delta free from wreaks until the services the state is pushing down are all dialed into the countie's budget.

The county sheriff's department also had to dial back manpower and services in 2010.
 
Yes. Weed Control is still budgeted for and under the umbrella of DBW. I do know we have less to work with this year than last and I will look into the salvage question for you
 
PJ Ryan, I found the answer to my own question in the eBudget that was just released. Weed control appears to be under Natural Resources, Boating and Waterways, Boating Facilities and it is still in the budget. There is also still budget in Boating Operations grants to local angencies for removal of abandon vessels.

Of course the budget is subject to the Legislatures' approval but it is a good start salvage and weed control are in the governor's proposed 2011 budget.
 
If you are speaking of Egeria, no. I will be sitting in on preliminary discussions sometime next week
 
There is an article in today's CoCo Times that Dept of Boating and Waterways is going to treat Egeria in Discovery Bay and Bethel Island, I think the date was 4 April, they are trying to cast a wide net per request from Contra Costa County. It costs $2K per acer to treat and the article asks boaters to drain and dry your boat when moving from an infested area to a non infested area to avoid spreading invasive aquatic weeds.
 
I was surprised at how quickly it spread in Discovery Bay. There never was an issue with it until last summer. All of a sudden it was everywhere. Some places were so bad that the whole cove was silted in.

I'm glad they're treating it. If they didn't I think the whole place would have been silted in this summer.
 
I thought you needed a prescription for "weed" in California :)
 
Walter, think of Egeria as water-borne crabgrass. You wouldn't smoke either one!
 
walterv, we can get that weed on almost any corner. We have prescription outlets very conveniently located throughout our area. It might prove just as hard to eliminate as egeria, though.
