Last weekend out on the boat I attempted to pump the holding tank before we pulled out of the water. Unfortunately the marina didn't turn on the pump out (prior to opening for the day). I figured OK no big deal I'll take care of it next week. I trailer home and proceed to clean out our items from in the cabin. I pop open the door to the head and what do I find? A blue river on the head floor!! Prior to that day, I heard backflow coming in the head after it was flushed. I suspected a dry joker valve that needed replacement. I then decide to check the holding tank to see exactly how full it was. Sure enough, the tank is over the bottom of the discharge hose. I'm assuming now the 'tank full' light is either burnt out or something is wrong with the level indication system. I clean up everything on the floor only to find a small leak in the caulking which has caused the water to trickle out onto the carpet in the galley. I continue to clean EVERYTHING and figure pumping out is first on my list next week.
Fast forward to this weekend. I decide to cover the head with trash bag and duck tape it as tight as I could. When I went to the gas station to fill up, I opened up the head door and again there was back flow on the floor. I flush the head again to buy us some more time. On the way to the ramp I stop and buy some bath towels so I can clean up the mess when I get to the river. Finally I get to the river, pump out, rinse, and pump out again. I also clean the head yet once again.
I ordered the joker valve last weekend and it was supposed to be here Wednesday. It didn't arrive and so now I'm told this Wednesday. That's on the list to replace first. I also purchased a PVC ball valve that I will install in the discharge line right after the head. Hopefully if this should happen again, I will be sure to close the valve. Other items to address will be the crappy caulk in the head floor and also figure out what's wrong with the level indication system.
Needless to say, I had a fun filled weekend!
