Currently own a 2000 340. Looking to upsize. Anyone familiar with Maxum 4600 SCB w/ cummins. I am not familiar with Maxum and am curious as to quality and resale values. Any comments appreciated.

Just FYI, B.E. has a Maxum forum now, sort of. (Bayliner, Maxum, Meridian Owners)

There are many Searay owners who have had experience with other brands of boats. I respect the opinions of my fellow Searay owners and that is why I asked this question on this forum.

Before I settled on my Searay we looked at many Maxum 3300 which is about the same size. The boat was taller than the dancer and the quality of the guages and some of the interior was not as nice as the searay but I did make an offer on one but my wife backed away when they did not initially take our offer.

if you dont' mind the opinion of former maxum owner...

i bought a 3700 back in 98 (new) and found it to be a very well built, well designed boat. never had to call maxum or the dealer in the 6 years i kept it (700 hours), just routine maintenance.

back then, the "sport yacht" line included the 3700, 4100 (express, bridge or aft cabin and the 4600). the 4600 is one nice boat and a great value. They were all built more or less to the same standard, different from the smaller maxums (up to the 33)

i carefully compared the 3700 to other boats when i bought it, incl SR, and despite its reasonable price, it had a lot of things others didnt' have, including SS trhuhull instead of plastic, a realbow pulpit, wide sidedecks, shore power in a stern locker, corian not formica, etc... the rub rail for instance was thru bolted... i never got a single drop of water leaking anywhere in that boat... and we get some pretty heavy rain showers in so fl. the engine bay was a pleasure to work in. plenty of room between the engines, decent access outboard, easy to reach generator, belts, etc... dont' recall the ER on the 46 but i'm sure it's pretty good too.

one exmaple of well built the boat was came during a strong tropical storm around 2000 or 2001, in a narrow slip, i couldnt keep the boat off the piling and after high tide, it ended up sort of hanging by the rail on top of a piling. the rail was deformed upward almost 6 inches, but the stanchions based never cracked, not even spider crack in the gel coat and i never even got a leak!

check out the review on www.yachtsurvey.com ... he rarely praises production boats, yet has mostly good things to say about the 4600. you can also check out www.maxumowners.com, some good info there.

if i had not needed something bigger to live aboard, the 4600 woudl have been my next boat.

I don't own a sea ray or a maxum but I did look at the 46 scb by maxum when i was shopping for a flybridge. I think it is a pretty darn nice boat...good exterior lines and good interior layout. Fit and finish is about Maxum level quality which is good/decent but nothing too over the top. Overall, I think the 4600 is a great boat. We looked pretty hard at one up in Chattanooga earlier but it's too big of a boat on the lake we are currently going to be on so we passed. I give it a thumbs up! :)

Thanks for the great feedback. My second comment on this topic was a result of SLW's comment regarding there being a Maxum forum on this site. I got the impression from a couple of private comments that this was not the place for Maxum question. However, the great comments show that this truly is a great source for info on many topics.

Czar, the irony is that the responses came from owners of SeaRays, Cruisers and a Hatteras. In other words, these RO's might be likely to roam into different forums and make contributions when they can, and could have found your post and responded in the Bayliner, Maxum, Meridian forum anyway.

It's great that you receieved information that you found valuable, but the problem is now that information is mis-filed for anyone else looking for info on a 4600 Maxum.

SLW...excellent point....maybe the moderators could get together and move this thread....

So guys, if i wanted searay owners opinions on a different brand, the way i see you wanting to run this forum i would need to post under the brand specific forum and HOPE that the searay owners whose opinions i was soliciting would happen to "roam" over. Here's how I would have to post it : Maxum Forum: Attention Searay owners, do you have any experience with Maxum 4600?

Sorry for inconveniencing this Forum.
TGCZAR...... Searay owner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No problem.....if you want opinions on how Sea Ray Owners feel about diffrent brands from their experience ......this would be the correct folder. But if you want any technical info on a specific brand.... you would be best to post your questions in the appropriate folder.

Who would want a searay owners thoughts???

We a bunch of pompas ass's.. who paid to much for there boats and like to rub it in people faces...

WTF do u know except how to write checks ...

I think some even claimed we werent real boaters......

So why would u want ou r opinion'''

Did i miss anything guys ....

TGCZAR,,,, im joking.... The same way they love attacking and then defending trolls ... they attack searay owners...

Somebody send me a friggin' map so I'll know how to get back to my home port. The seas are to rough here for me. Thank goodness the Coast Guard is patroling these waters so we don't take a wrong turn more than once.

Tough crowd..........I think they are still bent about the Sea Ray Owners Club going south..... Hmmm seems the Maxium Owners Club is still doing well.

I think Rob said all that needs to be said:
1. "We a bunch of pompas ass's.. who paid to much for there boats and like to rub it in people faces..."
2. "WTF do u know except how to write checks ..."
3."I think some even claimed we werent real boaters......"

:}

Walter, former Searay owner.....

To answer the Maxum question... I have a 1999 Maxum 46--it's the last boat I'll own. My wife and I love it; it's the best money I ever wasted. 99% of the componenets are identical to Sea Ray since Brunswick buys all of their stuff from the same suppliers for all their boats. For example, if you take the Sea Ray Arctic White gelcoat and add a few drops of tint, you get Maxum's Dream White gelcoat. Vinyls are identical, etc.
Great boat and no longer in production, so there aren't a bunch out there / left.

who/what was so rough? I don't see anything offensive here.

Id like to apologize for my real poor english... I was in MARYLAND ** the time...

Self explainitory I think...

Think i was high on bay seasoning ... but the point remains.... Walters just jealous they didnt ask a silverton owner for his opinion... LORD knows walters got opinions.....
