In lakes or Creeks.
I've heard Mud Bugs are vegetarians. Don't eat meat.
Other guys say Meat will do.
What?

What do you guys know about catching Mud Bugs in a wire trap?

Maybe steam up (or douse with Cajun sauce) a female crayfish and put her right in the trap? All the wannabe craw"dad"s will think she's in heat and come running!

O'Say can I thank you guys enough?????

I'll have to seek some knowledgeable and experienced Mud Bug trappers

I'll try the Fish Dept of a fisheries Univirsity. Some of them folks can read!

can of cat food with holes poked in the can or chicken livers.

My first plan would include a trip to my local Cajun fish market, and buy a sack of his best.

If you absolutely want to catch your own, get some fish . . . FRESH fish. Pogies, or shad are the meals of choice.

In CA, you just wait until they drain the rice fields. Just hold a bucket in the draining water and you get the bucket full in minutes.
You can catch several hundred at a time

Well, If I ever get the chance to visit Charlie or LIz I'll try that.

It's pretty cool yet. I doubt it they are up out of the ground.

Getakey and thuddie,

Forgot all about the rice fields. We'd get over 100 lbs with a group of 6 guys. Scoop up the ones in the center of the ditch and walk down the center and shake the over hanging brush. You can get 5 lbs in just 10'. Just be careful of the sun. First time I got heat stroke was out there where there ain't no trees for shade.

Bill,
Watching gator boys and like shows, they use 'melt' to catch the big-uns. They got gators in Alabama[:P]

did you ever go to the Crawfish Festival in Rio Vista?
edit - oops I meant Isleton. They even call it a "Crawdad" Festival

They Ditch for them in Louisiana. We don't seem to have that here.
I can't show my catch to my wife. She's from Louisiana, and would have all the edible Mud Bugs outta my trap. And they eat any size you can bring home.

What are you catching them for if you aren't gonna eat them?

I use them for Catfhish bait. Ummmm those we dont eat that is. Even some of the larger heads, still sorta intact, we use for bait too.
I thought of stuffing a Head with a Chicken Liver. How'zat sound?
