As if dedicated remote controls weren’t bad enough… someone just had to come up with a phone based remote control for docking and is marketing it as a replacement for crew or a tool for inexperienced boaters.

Scares the 2 out of me

I have tried using yacht controllers remotes a few times over the years and never understood the point. A set of engine controls on the aft deck is much better and safer as you instinctively feel which way the boat is pointing

As long as you are docking stern to. Big yachts from the cockpit might be an issue docking side to. From the side door of the bridge? Not so bad.

I've never watched a BIG yacht dock but would they not have crew either on the dock or around the boat with radios for communication when docking?

When I dock along side, I either do it form the pilot house or from the aft deck depending on the situation. For instance if it s tight coming in I will stay in the pilot house and rely on other on a stern camera or a crew on the radio calling distances to the stern as needed.

Docking from aft deck means I can see the bow but if there is space I don’t need to and being on the aft deck least me see what’s going on with fenders etc

Yes, we use radios to communicate with the crews handling the lines. They call out distances to dock or obstacles and confirm when each line is secured.
