What kind of bulbs

I have a 1999 Carver 356. It is missing two bulbs in the wall sconces in the aft cabin head. The outlets look like they accept a bulb that has two metal prongs that are about 3/8" apart. The BOM is not specific. Does anyone have the same boat with the wall lamps in the head? I would guess that the 355 has the same lights as well.

It should be a standard 12 volt automotive bulb. Take the bulb to an auto parts store and mtach it-just make sure ya get a brass bulb base.
 
The problem is that I don't have the bulb. Both fixtures were missing the bulb when I got the boat.
 
is it a round or flat socket? 12V or 120V AC?

There is not a socket. It has two small holes the accept a bulb with pins.

I have already replaced all other bulbs. These are the only two on the whole boat that have a different type of fitting. There is nothing to compare them two as they are unique.
 
If the holes are about the size of a pencil lead and spaced about 1/4" apart they would be G4 bulbs, probably halogen. If they're larger and farther apart than that then they're probably GU10 bulbs, but usually GU10 is 120v. You should be able to find either of them at your local home or hardware store, in the section that handles accent lighting. You might find the G4 bulbs at an auto store, too. Also some marine stores have them.

Problem with incandescent and halogen bulbs is that while they're cheap and bright they get really hot and draw a lot of power. You can find LED bulbs that fit the same type socket at Superbrightleds.com
 
I have a total of 4 sconce lights in our boat and the bulb is a much smaller bulb than the 1157 type auto bulb in the rest of the fixtures. If nobody comes up with anything I'll get the bulb number for you tonight. I always thought they were a halogen bulb of some sort but have never had to replace.

Thanks for all the info. I think from the description above they are probably G4 bulbs.

We have G4 all over my 325 aft cabin. All were replaced with LED cheaply; cuts down on power consumption and lots less heat; as previously suggested, a good idea.
 
I looked at the bulbs I had bought previously for other lights on the boat when I got home today and they were G4's. So the G4 is definitely not it. I think it may be a GY6.35 as the spacing on the holes is much wider than the G4. I think it is probably this bulb: http://www.amazon.com/64440-Bulb-gy6-35-Lamp-JC12V-50W/dp/B0040M9S7A

I am going to try and find an led version. Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions
 
Well it was the G4 bulb. I guess my 44 year old eyes could not see the smaller holes and I was focused on the flanges that were holding the base to the fixture. That is why I thought it was a different bulb. I had the G4's on the boat and ready.
