Neighbors are taking our kids camping with them this weekend. We've got Fri, Sat and Sun to ourselves. Thinking of renaming the boat ROCK-N-ROLL.

Any suggestions on where we should go for the weekend?

Red Bank, Channel Club, Port Jeff, Liberty Landing and Water Taxi to the City, weather may be a factor.

Probably too late for a reservation, but the Saugherties Light House is a pretty neat place to stay. (http://saugertieslighthouse.com/)
They have a dock but no electric for the boat. Also no A/C in the rooms, so that could be a problem based on your assumed intentions :)

I believe Jimmy Buffett answered that question in April of 1973......Of course that could be how you ended up with kids in the first place!

John if you are going to drive up there sure, because town is pretty far from the lighthouse. We were out there the other day on foot, and found that the light is only open for a visit on Sundays. That applies to folks that just want to look around. If you want to stay, well then perhaps a reservation is available.
But for a rare no kid kind of weekend, I'm thinking somewhere they could have a great dinner close to the boat is a good thing!

Dan- That's kind of what I'm thinking. Great dining within walking distance of the transient slip. Looking for lots of fun things to do during the day. Not really into sitting by a pool or hanging at the beach. Since I work in the city every day, anything not near Manhattan is good too.

Dave- Montauk is on the short list. We spent a summer or two there BK (before kids). We were on the frequent tie-down program at the airport in those days.

Little far for a weekend don't you think. Even at 40 mph. I going out for a week and don't think I will have even time to get there. At least not we two night stays at Montaul and Block along the way.

What was the place John (Rommer) was talking about in Jersey? There was a town dock or something with good restaurants near by. Wasn't it Belmar, inside the Shark River inlet? Never been there but heard a few good things. Beach is close by also?

IDK Dave, approx 130 miles at 40 mph seems very doable to me.

And IMHO I would replace Montauk with Newport in a heartbeat, so much more to do.

Newport Harbor & Marina is a great marina in the heart of Newport.

If I have a free weekend, a 400 Super Sport and gas money I would seriously consider it...

Last time we were in Montauk, we had a tough time finding a decent restaurant. Anyone have a good place?

I have never been to Newport I would like to go but I happen to really like Montauk and the 40 mile open water run is a little intimidating. Last year the trip to Block was dead calm the return was another story and Newport is twice the distance for Montauk.

I still say Old Saybrook if you want a romantic weekend.

Good memory Dan. Yes Belmar can be a nice little get away. The Admiral and I enjoy it there and they have GREAT fuel prices. The current can be a bitch though when docking but it can just as easily be slack as well.
