What would you have done

Last night my we took the boat to the nautical mile for dinner with another couple. As I am coming up to the woodcleft canal, there is a little fishing pier type place. I know to keep my distance because they cast pretty far out into the channel.

With that being said, I keep my distance and my buddy and I are talking wondering if they caught anything. Next thing I know I hear a loud thump. Yup, one of those guys casted their lines and it LANDED IN MY BOAT.

I was beyond furious. It landed a foot away from where my wife and her friend were sitting. Before I could get to the line and tie it off to snap it, my wife throws it back into the water and yells to them "Its back in the water for you" I put the boat in neutral and started yelling at the people on the dock as they were laughing. It took everything in my power not to dock the boat and get in the guys face.

I called the Freeport Police, they told me its a water incident and to radio the bay constable.

What would you have done?
 
Pulled out my ar-15 and blown them away.

Just kidding.

Called the bay constable. I am non defensive but if they were young kids I might of engaged. Problem these days is people are crazy so it's best not to engage unless you are certain there is no weapons.
 
Wait till all their lines are out and wiz by really fast and get all their stuff...or carry a small grappling hook.:D
 
Unfortunately or fortunately you probably have much more to lose in this sue happy world. In fact if you did bring your boat to the dock to engage you would have been the aggressor. You absolutely did the right thing by calling the police. They dropped the ball by blowing you off and sending you to another agency.
This comes from someone who has been there. Your life can change in a minute when someone sues you.

You did the right thing. Take high road, there's usually less traffic. I do have to admit though, the flair gun option may have crossed my mind in that situation.

You did the right thing by not escalating. The cops let you down. Not much different than someone throwing rocks at you. They were on land. However not everyone is accurate with casting so it could easily have been a mistake did they apologize?
 
IMO, I think you should follow your wife's example and chill out. Does not seem as if he did it on purpose, sh*the happens. Why would he want to loose his line, lure etc? Before you ask......No I am not a fisherman.

I used to be of the opinion that people were basically good. Then we had to make our way through a line of fishing boats that spanned the area between the Kills and Sandy Hook. They intentionally stopped in front of us on several occasions and forced us to avoid them. Some flipped us off for no good reason.
On the way back from Bimini to Miami, we had a trolling CC alter course to cut right in front of us. We were on auto pilot for several hours and I held course deviating just enough to avoid his lures which were easily seen from the fly bridge. He thought they were gone for sure, but I let them go. I yelled as we passed that I was on that course for hours and he knew he intentionally cut in front of me. He cried out for his lures as though he lost them.
In my opinion, he intentionally cast that line to get it in your boat. I don't blame you for getting upset but if I was ready I would have cut the line and moved on. Fortunately your wife did not get hung up on a hook. That would have been awful.
I agree the police let you down. A land unit should have responded and had a discussion with the jackass.

Looking around on amazon for an AR muzzle break and kept seeing a golf ball 'launcher'. I finally clicked on it. Says you use 223 blanks and it will throw it up to 400 yds. That's almost 1/4 mile. Hmmmmm!

I will say this was no mistake. For those that are familiar with this area know the deal there. They didnt say sorry they were laughing and carrying on like animals. We were past the fishing area, when the line landed in my boat. The guy went out of his way to cast towards us. Not one other line remotely close to us.

I really thought about taking the flare gun out and having the last laugh...
 
Grab the line next time, wrap around your cleat and keep going.............

That will teach them, when they have no more line on the spool, they can't cast into the next guys boat.

That's what I wanted to do but the Mrs already threw it over the side of the boat

I love it, plus you then get a new rod and reel out of the deal.
