What's a fair price for shrinkwrapping?

I've never paid anybody to shrinkwrap my boat before so I'm not sure what a fair price is. I'm on the Bohemia river in Maryland. My marina is charging $22.00 per foot, which seems high to me, and at 36 feet, pretty steep. I am leaning toward the shrinkwrap though, for various reasons, but wanted to hear about prices. I haven't shopped around for other folks who might come to my marina and do it cheaper.

One of the local marinas here charges $14.00/ft for boats over 31', $12.00/ft for under. $22.00 seems rather high. Check craigslist in your area...........I see shrink wrapping advertised on it in my area, they might in yours too.

I was quoted $17.50/ft for a large (47'), hard to wrap motoryacht (davit, radar, flybridge). 22 sounds a bit high to me unless they don't let outside contractors in. Then you're stuck I guess unless you move for the winter. If they let outsiders in, you may want to check the Nor'easter rag. There are ads in there for shrinkwrapping.

$14.00/ft for our 26-footer at Turkey Point Marina off the South River.

Thanks everybody. I thought that was a bit high. They were $18 per foot last year.

Anybody ever deal with Mr Shrinkwrap? I got their name from a Noreaster Magazine article. The price they quoted me was pretty good, but my buddy told me he had not heard much good about them.

I could never get Mr. Shrinkwrap to answer the phone or call me back. I always used Sassafras Canvas. Best price and great job. He works out of his shop behind his home on Rte 213 just south of Cecilton. I'm in Puerto Rico right now and don't have his phone number with me but he is listed under Sassafras Canvas.

Got it:

Last year, I paid $440 for a 28' flybridge, including a zipper door. I'm on the Chesapeake in Deale, MD. So, yeah, 22/ft seems high.

Well, it took me 3 weeks to finally give Sassafras Canvas a call, but I'm glad I did. He quoted me $10 a foot. That's a bit better than $22 a foot. Thanks Mike.

I was just quoted $550 for 31 feet with an access door but after some conversation, we settled for a swap for 2 good seats to this Friday's Celts/Lakers game. There appears to be some wiggle room in the shrinkwarpping game and a little conversation could cut your costs a bit.

Bud at Sassfras Canvas just did a full camper enclosure for me. He was half the price anybody in the area.

we charge $10 per foot on boat to 28 feet, and up to $16.75 for the biggies...Doors are $50 installed. Yesterday we did a Marquis 59 with a hardtop...boy was that fun...took most of the day. Don't let anyone tell you that the price of plastic went up...it actually came down this year.

Mike,

Yeah, you'll learn to like Bud and have him on speed dial. Just try to avoid the dogs in his back yard! ;)

Mark, where is your boat?

I think you're right Mike. I also am thinking about a camper canvas for the same boat. I'm going to ask him about that as well.
